Upgrading to Windows 8 64 bit from XP 32 bit using the $39.95 download
location:
microsoft.com - date:

The Windows 8 website states the following:
Can I upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 8?
Yes, but you can't do this using Upgrade Assistant. If your PC has a 64-bit capable processor (CPU) but is currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can install a 64-bit version of Windows 8, but you'll need to buy Windows 8 as
a DVD.
You also won't be able to keep any files, settings, or apps when you upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit version.
My question is this....what is different from the download version and the actual DVD? Why can't I purchase the download version, save it to a DVD, and then use it to upgrade from XP 32 to W8 64 using a clean install

Windows 7 dual boot to Windows 8, using Win. 8 upgrade
location:

Trying to do something, leaves me a bit undecided if it can be done. This is a new Dell Inspiron, Windows 7 with 64 bit OS. Microsoft offered that when I bought this laptop, I could buy Windows 8, for $15, which I did. Unfortunately, even with almost 19 years of computing experience, I missed the term UPGRADE, in Microsoft's offer, and got a downloaded upgrade to Windows 8, which means over writing Windows 7, which I don't want to do. Microsoft changed Windows 8 a great deal from what I've read, so my plan had been to partition my HD, which I already did, but when I got the upgrade, I found an upgraded Win. 8, MUST be installed over the existing Windows 7. No good. I want both, Win 7 to use, and Win 8 to learn on. But I thought of this meth

At least one .NET 3.5 assembly missing in Windows 8 Release Preview / Windows Server 2012 RC
location:
microsoft.com - date:
July 30, 2012
I've noticed the following issue in Windows 8 Release Preview / Windows Server 2012 RC (and been able to reproduce it on three different installations):
When installing .NET Framework 3.5 via "Programs and Features", the following assembly will not be installed:
* System.IdentityModel.Selectors.dll
The problem is, that it is still referenced by System.ServiceModel and can thus lead to exceptions when reflecting the assemblies. Is this a known issue that will be fixed for the RTM?
Regards, Michael

Battlefield 3 lagging in Windows 8
location:

Now before anyone says that my GPU is the issue (usually it would be) when I was running Windows 7 with my GPU drivers all up to date I was able to run BF3 on low settings at 1024x768 (auto graphics settings says I can run it a bit higher though) with not much lag (in fact it ran better than the youtube video I saw that proved that BF3 can run on an Intel HD 3000) but now as I'm using Windows 8 also with my drivers up to date BF3 lags from the get go and some in the Battlefield forums seem to hint that it might be a Windows 8 problem. Has anyone experienced this issue and if it is an issue with Windows 8 is there an update or fix for the lag? BF3 along with Borderlands 2 and Tomb Raider are the only games that I currently own tha

The inbuilt file transfer window is lagging behind. while sending files to the external devices like to a pendrive or to a HDD the copying window appears and shows as TIME remaining: calculating. it just hangs there. it doesn't show the progress. But actually
the files are being sent at the speed of half usual speed. I noticed the green color progressing in the explorer icon in the task bar. Can some one help me to resolve the issue?
