Printing from Mac os 10.5 to a printer connected to a Windows 8 PC
location:
microsoft.com - date:
November 26, 2012
I have an older model Brother printer (MFC-240C), which I hooked up to my new Windows 8 PC. The printer does not by itself have any wireless networking capabilities, but I'd like to share it with other computers on the network using printer sharing.
Previously, with my old Windows XP computer, I simply enabled sharing on Windows, and then I was able to see the printer on my Mac (OS 10.5), add it, and send print jobs.
Apparently, Mac OS 10.5 and Windows 8 no longer speak to one another as easily. So I followed a Microsoft help file about printing from a Mac to a Windows 7 PC on a network, using the LDP print service.

I believed that I followed these steps exactly: Enabled LDP print services

Upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro fails every time.
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 25, 2013
I have paid for the upgrade via Paypal.
I run the assistalnt and it says that all is ok apart from a couple of games that are not compatible, and a couple of programmes that will need to be reinstalled to work. I have uninstalled everything that I don't need right now.
The assistant runs, says I need to reboot, I do that, then continue. I goed on for quite a while, then a box comes up saying that the 'Windows Upgrade has Failed'. No other information.
I have run it from the desktop, from a USB and from an imaged DVD.
I have also tried it with all with all but the Microsoft services running. No change.
Any suggestions?

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
Technical Information:

Windows 8 PC - Tablet - Phone email sync
location:
8forums.com - date:
August 30, 2012
I currently have an android phone and use gsyncit to sync my tasks and calendar with Google calendar and tasks. I then have gmail pulling emails and leaving them on my web site host's email server via POP3. This works fairly well but is the email part is kind of clumsy and I can spend lots of time sorting emails in gmail that are already all sorted on my PC's outlook.
My dream is to have a mini-outlook on a Windows 8 phone and Windows 8 tablet that stays in sync with my Outlook on my PC (and vise versa) via the skydrive cloud service - no more messing with re-filtering email, deleting garbage emails I already deleted on my PC. Things on my new Windows 8 phone and tablet would mirror my PC right down to the filtering rules and f

How to prevent BSOD on new Windows 8 PC?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
February 25, 2013
I am repeatedly getting the BSOD on my new Windows 8 PC.
I purchased the PC about 4 weeks ago, and all was fine until last week when the light blue screen with "Your PC has ran into a problem and needs to restart" began to appear. It is now occurring with annoying regularity, and I would like to resolve this issue.
I have uploaded the minidump files to
https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=EFBEB3C3D7DE45C7
The bugcheck code always seems to start with 0x0000003b
The problem reporting feature in windows has not given any useful information, and when I select "View Solution" the same message comes back saying the the solution can not be downloaded at the current time.
Any help much appreciated,
Thanks,
John.

Windows 8 PC hanging
location:
8forums.com - date:
February 7, 2013
Hey all,
Lately my Windows 8 PC has been mysteriously hanging. I can still click icons and it would show the spinning wheel but programs won't load up (i.e. Chrome, task manager, etc) nor am I able to shut down the PC. I'll click "shut down" the spinning wheel shows up and then nothing. I sorta noticed this after I did a Windows update but I also did a system restore to before the updates but no I'm still experiencing this issue. I don't normally turn off this PC, it runs all day and night and usually acts up after a day or two which then I have to do a hard reset. I have all my power option set so that the PC doesn't sleep after a certain time or the hard drive doesn't turn off after a set time. No other programs were i

Network printer doesn't work from Windows 8 PC
location:
8forums.com - date:

Have 3 PCs on home network and recently upgraded computer 2 to Windows 8
Computer 1 has lan connection, Windows 7 (can see all computers on network, can't access Computer 2)
Computer 2 Wi-fi connection, Windows 8 (can't see or access other 2 computers on network)
Computer 3 lan connection, Windows Vista (can see & access computer 1 on network, can't see or access Computer 2)
When I run Windows Network Diagnostic, problem can't be identified. I'm trying to print from computer 2 to the printer connected to Computer 1--it worked fine until I upgraded to 8. Have made sure all the sharing options are on and the Homegroup password is the same for the Computer 1 & 2. Any help would be appreciated.
