Unused programs appearing in Start Menu frequent list - caused by remote hacking?
location: microsoft.com - date: May 24, 2013
I have noticed that there are 2 new programs appearing on the list of most frequently used programs on my Start Menu. I haven't used these programs for about a year. I am worried that they have appeared because someone has remotely hacked into my computer and accessed them (it would have to be remote as no one else has access to my computer). Can someone please give me some insight as I'm beginning to get worried [paranoid]! Incidentally, my computer automatically installed some Windows updates recently. I have checked the list of updates installed (through the control panel), but they do not relate to the 2 programs. Thank you in advance! Is there a way to cascade the folder list under All Programs in Start Menu, so that one doesn't have to scroll through it looking for a program? Also, how to make each folder in All Programs section expandable on Mouse Over instead of clicking on it to expend? I'm not just asking for an available Win 7 option to select, but may be for a workaroud to add such functionality.

I rarely use the start menu, but I just noticed that several programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, etc.; as well as some other non-Office programs) will not launch from the Start Menu. I have tried clicking on them, right click and "Open", and even moved them to the Quick Launch menu.(From the Quick Launch menu I can right click and "open" to launch, but not just click on them). Some of them (on the Start Menu) still work (i.e. Windows Update, Firefox, IE9), but most do not work. I have unpinned them and re-pinned them and nothing changes; they still won't launch from the Start Menu. Weird stuff . . . anyone got some idea of what's going on?

I am trying to customize the start menu in Windows 7 to make it useable, however it seems much more difficult than in previous version of Windows. On the right side of the start menu, above the "Shut Down" button, there are a number of shortcuts for various things. Some shortcuts such as links for "My Music", "My Videos", "My Pictures" can be edited to point to the desired folders. Other items are not as easily modified. I would like to be able to add a set of shortcut items to this list that are more useful, such as "Links". I have several menu items that I have located under "Links" with shortcuts that go to various programs, etc. However, there does not seem to be an easy way to actually get to the Links fol

Is there any legitimate way to get the All Programs menu in the Windows 7 Start Menu to display as a cascading menu (WinXP style)? I've seen numerous references to various malware programs to download from the internet which hack the start menu to provide this feature, but I'm not interested in executing random programs from the internet. If there's no legit way to do this in Windows 7 right now, is there any chance of Microsoft adding this in the future? The current "scrolling tree" menu implementation is really inconvenient. :-(

I have Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 installed on my laptop. Since a few weeks I have noticed that many Programs have gone missing from All Programs in Start menu. If I go dig out the program in my HDD then I am able to find them but it is causing much problems that the programs are not visible in All Programs. Thanks in advance!
