Volume Slider for Desktop Side of Windows 8
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I'd love to be able to adjust or mute the volume on the desktop side of Windows 8 with just one click. I swear that I've seen little slider widgets that would allow me to do such a thing but after waaay to many hours of searching I've haven't been able to find one.
Does anyone know of anything that might work for me? TIA.

Windows 7 dual boot to Windows 8, using Win. 8 upgrade
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Trying to do something, leaves me a bit undecided if it can be done. This is a new Dell Inspiron, Windows 7 with 64 bit OS. Microsoft offered that when I bought this laptop, I could buy Windows 8, for $15, which I did. Unfortunately, even with almost 19 years of computing experience, I missed the term UPGRADE, in Microsoft's offer, and got a downloaded upgrade to Windows 8, which means over writing Windows 7, which I don't want to do. Microsoft changed Windows 8 a great deal from what I've read, so my plan had been to partition my HD, which I already did, but when I got the upgrade, I found an upgraded Win. 8, MUST be installed over the existing Windows 7. No good. I want both, Win 7 to use, and Win 8 to learn on. But I thought of this meth

Windows 8 Release Preview doesn't boot on Pentium 4 and doesn't run Metro apps on AMD64

I tried to install Windows 8 RP on an old Pentium 4 (x86 3GHz). If I run the installer from Windows 7 it says that my CPU isn't supported.
So I tried booting from DVD. It shows a "Windows®" logo and then some error codes saying that my PC needs to restart and I have to hold down Power button.
I also tried extracting the installed from sources\boot.wim with 7-Zip:
it installs and restarts with the old CP "betta" logo, but on the second restart
it shows the RP "Windows®" logo and error codes. It reverted Windows 7.
I tried installing Windows 8 RP (x32) on a laptop with an old AMD64 CPU. This laptop has a broken Hard Drive, so I tried installing to an external USB one. Windows Setup says that USB isn't supported, so I used my other P

Question- upgrading win7HP/win8 preview dual boot to win7/win8 pro
location:
8forums.com - date:
October 26, 2012
I currently have Win7 & Windows 8 preview in separate partitions on the same machine. I am trying to figure out the best way to install Windows 8 pro on my system and keep my current dual boot setup with Win 7 intact and stay legal.
So....I have a 3 licence family pack of windows 7 of which I have used only 1 licence. Is there some way I can use one of the remaining win7 licences to upgrade win8pro over top of the Windows 8 preview and keep my current dual boot win7/Windows 8 setup(legally) and without messing up my current Win7 installation (or Win 8 preview installation for that matter)? Is there any advantage in getting the OEM version instead?

Weird Windows 7/Windows 8 Dual Boot problem
location:

So I have Windows 7 on an SSD that is Disk 0. I decided to make a dual boot with Windows 8 for Hyper V because I have a class where I need to setup VM's with it (but thats not the point).
Anyway, I wiped my secondary hard drive (Western Digital 300gb HDD) and created a partition to load Windows 8 on. After that I installed it with no problems and was up and running in a few minutes. So I never switched back to Windows 7 in the Bios because I was busy setting up some servers on HyperV but this morning I go to switch the boot order in Bios from my HDD to the SSD with Windows 7. No errors came up, it just went straight back to Windows 8. So I restarted the computer again to check bios again, same problem.
So I checked fdisk and found tha

Window 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro Dual Boot (No option at boot up)
location:

I am not getting the screen asking me to choose which Operating system at boot up. It gives me no options and just Boots straight to the C drive where I have Windows 7 Pro.
In preparation I shrunk the Volume of the C drive and created a new partition (E) in which I made it a simple volume NTFS . I then installed Windows 8 Pro from the CD ROM and everything went fine. However when I re boot it just Boots straight into Windows 7 Pro and no mention of Windows 8.
I tried to use Easy BCD 2.2 and now I have three entries (1) Windows 7 (2) Microsoft Windows 7 (3) Microsoft Windows 8
When I select Windows 8 at boot up I then get an error telling me the boot Load EXE file is corrupt
I am really stumped, I have loaded windows 8 four times and s
