Since there is no full version of Windows 8 only the upgrade or System Builder version; why is Microsoft punishing people that want to install it on a computer that had another OS with no support when they use to have a full version with support ?

Windows 8 Pro "Dirty" Upgrade over Existing Windows 7 System

Original title:Window 8 upgrade on Alienware M15x Laptop
I’ve tried numerous times to upgrade my Alienware M15x 64 bit Windows 7 to Windows 8.
Every time it gets to 15% then errors out saying unable to locate source.
I’ve update all drivers and the bios, downloaded two different sources.
Tried all the tips with limited boot etc…Still get the error.
Due to some of the installed programs I have to do an upgrade install.
