Windows 8 Clean Install from Upgrade Disk to SSD with no Operating System
location:

I'm about to build a new pc and would like to know if I need to buy a full version of Windows 8 or can I use the update version to do a clean install on a disk drive which does not contain any operating system? It was possible to install Windows 7 from an upgrade rather than having to buy the full version so can something similar be done with Windows 8 and still be legitimate within the licence agreement?

Where do I find the non-upgrade/ system builder edition of windows 8?

I am a computer hobbiest and format my harddrive a few times throughout the year so I can't use windows 8 upgrade as there is no OS to upgrade from... I'v heard there is a system builder edititon available but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the Microsoft
site. In addition I heard that there is a limited number of activations for the system builder edition which would also make it kind of useless for me to buy.

Dreamspark Win8 license: upgrade or system builder?
location:

As a student, I have a free key for Windows 8 Pro 64 via my school's Dreamspark Premium account, and have just purchased an mSATA for my laptop.
I’d like to going from my current setup of: HDD = boot drive & data drive, with Windows 7 Pro 64 To: mSATA = boot drive, with clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64 from Dreamspark Premium HDD = wiped, then used as data drive I’d prefer to nuke all the content on my HDD from orbit during this process.
--> Does anyone know whether Dreamspark Premium Windows 8 Pro licenses can be used as "clean install" licenses (i.e. are they System Builder)?
-->Even if they don't, will the installer detect the Win7 install on the HDD an allow a Windows 8 "upgrade" onto the new

Windows 8 - Windows 7 file recovery - System Repair Media

Having recently purchased an Ultrabook, with Windows 8 (64), without a CD/DVD writer/reader, I have been investigating means of backing up my operating system.
I have tried out the most popular programs, such as Acronis, and Paragon, which are reported as being compatible with Windows 8; but have found that they do not work, with Secure Boot enabled!
Furthermore, even with Secure Boot disabled, I have not been able to boot, using a CD, via an external USB CD/DVD writer/reader!
I can boot with Acronis, from a Flash drive, but only with Secure Boot disabled.
My preference is not to play around with the BIOS - Enabling/Disabling Secure Boot!
Given this, after further investigation, I have discovered the ability to produce an ima

MSE system requirements
location:

Hi All, I am exploring the possibility of trying Microsoft Security Essentials, and notice in the system requirements that the prefered browsers are either IE V6 or later, and Firefox V2 or later. Does this mean that other browsers aren't compatible? I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would confine communication to two browsers, but I thought I'd ask here. At the moment, Chrome is my default browser and Cyberfox is my standby. If you are or have been a user, what is your opinion of it? Thanks for any input in advance.

Does my system meet minimum requirements??
location:
7forums.com - date:

I'm considering upgrading from XP (SP 3) to Windows 7. Read the requirements and seem to meet them all except I'm not sure about the graphics. Computer is just shy of five years old. It has Pentium CPU @ 3 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 260+ GB of free hd space. Graphics card is GeForce 7300 LE, DirectX ver 9.0c. Don't know how to tell if driver is WDDM 1.0 or higher.
Two questions:
1) How can I tell if my graphics card/driver meet or exceed the minimum? and
2) If so, is this upgrade advisable, given the age of my system?
Can't help wondering how much longer Microsoft will continue to support XP and how much longer new software will run on it...
Would appreciate feedback...
