System freezing up with error: "System volume on disk is corrupt"
location:

Original title: System freezing up
My Windows 7 desktop machine has a "System volume on disk is corrupt" error. Have run chkdisk code verification several times but it gets hung up on stage 5 of 5 after about 65% complete. It just stays there with no further progress for up to an hour
after which I reboot manually. Any ideas why it hangs up and what to do next would be appreciated.

XP Pro system kicks out the DVD drive tray when I try to upgrade to Win 7. Cannot install; what's up with that?

Sitting here awaiting instructions as to how to install Windows 7 Ultimate from my CD, Yes I'm using the correct disc, 32 Bit Software, I AM the admin of this machine. Tried everything I could think of and even popped the CD into my laptop which has Windows
7 on it and it wanted to upgrade it from Home edition to Ultimate. Read the files on the CD from the laptop & they are indeed there. Where can I get a free download online from Microsoft simply by putting my key in for it? Any other ideas would be considered
as well..... Thanks in advance.

When i boot my vista machine i get two options, Repair and Run windows, Repair option cannot repair the problem and in the log file it says "System volume on disk is corrupt". I am able to access the hard drive through command prompt. i don’t see
any obvious problem. I looked at ntbtlog.txt, it says it cannot load around half of the drivers (mostly *.inf). I have the OEM reintall disk. What other option do i have , other than reinstalling.

Cannot delete Recycler and System Volume Information folder from external storage disk
location:
microsoft.com - date:
August 27, 2012
Hi,
I accidentally copied the above two folders to my Seagate Freeagent Go External disk. Now I cannot get rid of them. I'm running Windows XP Home. I have tried the solutions previously posted including deleting in Safe Mode, Changing permission in Safe Mode
and downloading Unlocker. Unlocker had some success.in that it deleted most of the files contained in the two folders but not the folders and subfolder. Recycler has one sub-folder (S-1-5-21-823518204-8134977) size 85 bytes. The system Volume information Folder
is empty.

"System volume on disk is corrupt". Hard disk not detected on trying to format hard disk.
location:

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook. While playing with partitions from Ubuntu Live CD, I got some errors and then I could not boot into Win7. I didn't install Ubuntu. Just got back from Partition Screen. I got a blue screen after the Boot Screen. I ran
the system repair which gave "System Volume on disk is corrupt" but could not repair the problem. I thought I would format my hard-disk and re-install Win7 but the setup does not detect any hard drive.

Will Windows 7 64 bit System Builder disk let me do a clean install using the OEM license that came with any PC?
location:

In the past, I purchased a windows XP home Premium System builders disk.
If there was a computer that didn't have the recovery disks, I could reinstall the XP operating system and use the ORIGINAL OEM license to
activate the computer.
Does this still hold true with a copy of WINDOWS 7 Home premium 64 bit System Builders disk.
Will this disk allow me to use the Original OEM license on any computer that I do a clean install on If I
Have a separate WINDOWS 7 Home Premium License on those computers?

windows 8 system repair disk doesn't work
location:

i've tried to use my self-created windows 8 system repair disk on several occasions to restore an system image i've made (i've made at least 4 and all of them were successfully created, according to windows 8). unfortunately the repair disk doesn't boot...
all i can hear is the dvd drive reading the disc, and then spinning down, and then spinning back up. it cycles through this process. i've let it go for as long as 5 or 10 minutes and nothing happens, just the windows 8 logo on the screen. i finally get tired
and eject the cd, and a blue screen comes on saying that system32/winload.exe is corrupt or missing. i have a feeling it has to do with those pesky digitally signed files, since i can't use easybcd any longer to control my bo

~8-9 GB used in C:\System Volume Information\ ?
location:
7forums.com - date:
July 19, 2010
I was defragging with defraggler and i noticed that there were a few defragmented files in System Volume Information but they were huge files which added to about 8gb. It could be more as only the fragmented files add to 8gb.
I was wondering where these files came from? They have long, random letter/number names and range from 200mb - 3gb each
Before my factory settings reset, i used to have only 1 huge file in system volume information which was ~2gb.
is it okay if i delete these files
thanks
