Power up a laptop with the lid closed
location: 7forums.com - date: August 23, 2011
I have a laptop, Sony Vaio, which have the power button on the right side, not over the keyboard like some other models. So I would like to turn on the laptop by pushing the power button anytime - even when the lid is closed. But this is not the case, I can only turn on the laptop when i open the lid. I have connected my laptop to TV (as dock, via HDMI port) to look at movies. I have changed the power settings to do nothing when i closing the lid. Which works fine, but I still need to open a lid, turn on, and close the lid again! I think it should be an easy way to solve this problem. So i want to know is there any way to turn on windows when the lid is closed? Thank you in advance!

When I close the lid on my laptop then reopen it later, the computer does nothing. I try using the mouse pad, I hit the space bar, I hit the power button real easy and the screen stays dark. I need to remove the battery from the machine to make it understand that I want it to operate. This is not normal operating procedure how do I fix this?

Hello, I hope someone can help me. Brand new Acer Aspire with Windows 7. It worked okay for the first month and then started to make a noise when the lid is closed - thereby freezing. My power settings are set to Sleep upon closing the lid and Task bar is not on auto hide. I choose updates myself, so there is nothing unwanted. Any suggestions, any help? Thanks.

I have searched the forum and tutorials looking for an answer to my problem but found nothing that really fixes it. If someone has posted a solution, please forgive me from the repeat, and point me to the thread. When I run a WinXP VM application in integrated mode, it starts and runs fine. I then shut down the application, say VB6, and that seems to close the VM machine as I have set in the XP mode options (the VM is no longer running according to the Task Manager). But when I later shut down Win 7 Pro, the shutdown process halts stating that the VM is running and needs to be shutdown first (why? It supposedly is not running according to TM). It asks me to either cancel shutdown so I can manually shutdown the VM, or else it says it can fo

Laptop takes 20 - 30 minutes to boot. But after booting, the laptop seems to run smoothly. Another problem is that everytime I try to Shutdown, nothing is happening. Restarting and hibernating the laptop also takes 20 - 30 minutes.

Original title: SD Card Preventing Sleep/Shutdown? Hello, After searching for an answer to this recent issue on my Lenovo Yoga 13 Windows 8 hybrid, I haven't found an answer, so here goes. I recently purchased a SanDisk 64GB MicroSD card with adapter, and placed it in the card slot. Since then, the computer will not enter sleep mode when I close the lid (like it did prior to inserting the SD card) nor will invoking the shutdown command actually shut the computer down on its own. I have to actually pop the SD card out for anything to happen -- as soon as I pop the SD card out of the slot, the invoked shutdown command completes, and shuts the computer down, or the computer will enter sleep mode
