shortcut to control panel page
location:

hi all, not been about for a few weeks, but now i need your help:
how do i open up a certain tab of the control panel with a shortcut?
i use the page shown below a lot, switching between mic and line-in inputs whilst recording, and i'm tired of having to click start >> control panel >> hardware and sound >> sound >> recording tab - i just want to click on a shortcut.
i know that control.exe mmsys.cpl will open up the default 'playback' tab, but how do i get to auto-open the recording tab?
as far as i remember, ever since windows 3, you could simply add ,2 to open the second tab, thusly: control.exe mmsys.cpl, 2
but that doesn't seem to work any more with windows 7. i did think about running the shortcut in xp

Creating a Shortcut direct to a control panel sub-level window
location:
7forums.com - date:

I find that I'm wanting to change the Microphone level quite often and wonder if I can somehow create a shortcut direct to it, so it's a 1-click thing, straight to the Levels tab.
Currently I have to click about 7 times to get to that tab. Is it possible to create a shortcut to a drilled down level like that? If not, does anyone know if there's a way to find where in the registry the Level number is stored ? Then I can at least create a few preset .reg files that I can click on to set it without even going into that Levels dialog.

Where is the Java Update tab in the Java Control Panel?
location:
7forums.com - date:
August 9, 2012
I've been doing some reading about Java and how it relates to system security and vulnerability. Been thinking about removing it altogether, but not ready to do that just yet. I would at least like to make sure my Java is set to check for updates every day. However the Update tab is missing from the Java Control Panel.
I'm currently running Java SE 6 Update 33 (just updated today), and in Control Panel it says it's the 32-bit version. This is on a Windows 7 x64 machine. Do I need to get the 64 bit version?
Should I be using Java SE 6 Update 33, or Java SE 7u5?

I recently updated my Java installation to the latest version (Version 7 Update 9), and I notice that I no longer have Java showing in my Windows Control Panel. Is this a Java error, or does the latest version not have a control panel app?

Can't open Java Control Panel, Can't uninstall
location:

Need help on this - I'm at a loss to figure it out.
Late last week something corrupted my Java ... maybe something I did but unforunately didn't notice the problem until later and can't remember what I might have been doing.
I noticed it when I went to a web site that I use that requires Java to place orders and it wasn't working. I tried to download the latest version from the Java site and it wouldn't install. I went to Control Panel to open the Java Control Panel and just got a registry error message. Add/Remove Programs won't uninstall the old version either because it can't find a file. So I'm stuck ... can't uninstall and can't install.
I even tried System Restore and rolled back to a month ago and that didn't change anything. Her

Windows 8 x64 - Two Control Panel icons in Taskbar..?!
location:
8forums.com - date:
December 18, 2012
Since I installed Windows 8 (on top of Vista x64 Ultimate) I have two Control Panel icons in the Taskbar.
If I right click and choose Delete to the one on the left, nothing happens.
If I right click and choose Delete to the one on the right, it deletes, but it reappears after a Reboot.
This is driving me nuts. I only want one icon.
How can I achieve this?
Thanks.
D.
