Windows XP Mode can't see my LAN
location:

I have a new Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit PC and I've installed Windows XP Mode on it in a Windows Virtual PC. I can't get XP Mode to access the LAN. Outside XP Mode, Win 7 has access to the other Windows assets on the LAN.
My LAN is an all-workgroup network - no machines on domains. In XP Mode, all I can see in the workgroup is the XP Mode virtual machine.
If I let XP Mode obtain an IP address automatically, it uses a different subnet from mine. I use 192.168.0.0. It sets up 169.254.0.0 automatically.
Then, if I manually assign an IP address that is on my subnet and is unoccupied (192.168.0.5) and assign the connection to the same workgroup, it still does not see anything else in the workgroup. It only sees itself.

Can't uninstall Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode
location:
7forums.com - date:
November 6, 2009
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1545, Intel Pentium dual-core CPU, T4300.
I am trying to uninstall Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode but I'm unable to.
When I tried to uninstall from Control Panel / Programs, I could only find Windows XP Mode listed. Although I uninstalled this, I can still find it in the All Programs list.
As for Windows Virtual PC, I couldn't find it either under Control Panel nor through Revo.
Is there a way I can manually uninstall these?
Thanks
Simon

Do I need to install an anti-virus software in Virtual XP Mode?
location:
7forums.com - date:
October 16, 2011
Greetings, I have Kaspersky Internet Security installed on my pc that has Windows 7 Ultimate as its OS. I am beginning to become acquainted with Windows Virtual PC XP Mode. When I open the XP Mode I get a pop-up from the security center that I need to install an anti-virus software. My KIS license is only for one pc. If I try to install it a 2nd time for the XP Mode it will be seen as installing KIS on two pc's (?). Any ideas or solutions? Thanks.

Virtual PC/XP Mode is asking me for my name & password. I think it says XPMUser and wants me to answer with a password. I want to change the name and create a password. I never created one.

I haven't created anything yet it keeps asking for a password and the name shown is XPMUser, I believe. How I can I change this to create a password too. My file is listed as XPMUser under. c:/Documents and Settings/XPMUser I have this folder. Should
that have my name there instead and if so how does one change the name and create a password?
Thank you

Cannot log into XP Mode
location:
7forums.com - date:
November 21, 2009
I installed XP Mode.
(Downloaded from MS page: Download Windows XP Mode)
On my first run, I activated Administrator in "Local Users and Groups".
Then I logged off, and tried to log in as Administrator. It gave me this error.
So I logged back in as XPMUser by entering my password.
Then I went to User Accounts, and removed the password.
Then I switched to full screen, and it took me to the logon screen.
Now it is giving me the same error that it did earlier when I tried to logon as Administrator.
I get this same error whether I try to login as XPMUser or Administrator:
What happen?
It won't allow me to get out of fullscreen.

Can't log in to XP Mode
location:
7forums.com - date:

I installed XP Mode to run an old application (made for Windows 3.1) that won't install on Windows 7.
It worked fine, and I was able to install and run that old application.
All was well until I got tired of entering the password every time. It's on a home computer, not a business computer, and we don't use a password to log into Windows 7. So I went into the account management control panel and changed the XPMUser password to blank (no password; emtpy string).
Now I can't log on to XP Mode.
What do I need to do to log into XP Mode? And, it is possible to use XP Mode without a password?

Can't seem to download xp mode or virtual PC
location:

I'm banging my head against the wall for two days.
I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64, I go to the website, click on the download, go through the validation, then the utility bar pops up. I right click on the bar, click download this program . . . and BOOM! I'm back at the first page where it shows the original download options (what version and language).
It's driving me nuts! I've run it under 64 bit explorer and 32 bit both normally and as administrator. No joy.
Anybody have any ideas? I hope, I hope, I hope.
EDIT: I have run the program in the past, but eventually dumped it, so I know it will run.

Windows7x64 Running XP mode on Virtual PC who installs first?
location:

To run some 32 bit software I want to install WindowsXP and Virtual PC. But.. in trying not to screw it up... I have found conflicting advice on which one to install first. The MS website implies (?) you install WindowsXP first.. but.. I have found some forum chat where the implication is that you install the Virtual PC part first.
Can someone please clarify this for me..
Thank you for your time
