Service pack 1 won't install. No error code. It sys iot was installed , but it's not. History shows 5 installations, but programs that need it says to install it.

I have done a complete restore out of box new instalation of Vista. I did this because I was having problems installing programs I've been using for years, bhut now will not reinstall. To reinstall other programs like Explorer 9, it says I need Service
pack 1. History shows it's installed. I reinstalled it 5 times. It shows that, but Explorer 9 can't find it. My other program is on a counter and takes several days for the publisher to reset the counter so I don't want to try installing that one untill
the Service pack 1 is installed.
I've done 3 complete recoveries. No help, same results. Now, what, any ideas.

These who've got a 0x080073701 problem should try to post all programs which they've got on pc's. Then we'll be able to compare and think which program could have caused this error. I'll start :
-Adobe(Flash Player ActiveX/Plugin, Photoshop CS5, Reader X)
-Ashampoo Burning Studio
-Catalyst 11.1

I have been trying to update to SP1 on my girlfriends Sony Vaio Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. Every time I try to update, it downloads, installs, restarts, gets to "Configuring Service Pack..." and then Fails at about 14% , rolls back the update,
restarts again and pops this message up:

Hi,
I have Windows Vista Home Premium (Version 6.0, Build 6001: service pack 1).
System update prompt comes up every time I reboot, but it would not install the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465). The error says “a system error prevented the service pack from installing. Please download and run the “Check for System Update Readiness”
tool at Microsoft (url).”
The said tool prompts me to install Hotfix for Windows, and then says “Some updates were not installed: Hotfix for Windows (KB947821).”
Windows Update window also says "1 update not installed. Unknown error, error code 800

Have repeatedly been unable to install this service pack update for over a year. Using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit. Have gotten through the download, installation, and have even received a "Pending" status on the windows update, only to see the computer,
on it's own, restart and change back to it's prior state. I have even received instructions from windows update to install a Security Update KB2633171 to update after the Service pack has been installed, only to see the computer restart on its own to return
the machine to it's prior state. Which is (1 important update, the Windows Service Pack 1 & 29 language Packs.)

Hello! I get error code 8007002 when I install language packs(English).
I'm sure installed the English language pack on my computer and switch to English.
After reboot my computer it show up original(Chinese language).
Than I check my computer is show currently Display:English
I try to switch to english again but can't find English language pack in my computer.Than I download it again and reinstall again.during install get a error code
8007002.I have tried the Microsoft suggested solution.
