right clicking a file or shortcut causes explorer to stop working then restart (win 7 pro SP1)
location:
microsoft.com - date:

This is the main reason for the post. My machine is acting strange but all scans in safe mode as "admin" result in nothing found. I used SpyBot S&D, AdAware, AVG, Windows Defender, Windows Mal-S tool (latest) aand reapplied SP1 as well as system restore.
All my restore points are gone except for yesterday's efforts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Right-clicking in OS shell causes Explorer crash and restart
location:

okay I give up again, this is in fact a Microsoft issue I have NOTHING LOADED on this machine and it still crashes. So I am going back tomorrow to Vista and I am not loading this ____ till Service Pack 1 or 2. This is complete silly and it is totally waste
my damn time. It is impossible to even think about waiting for a fix since I would be constantly having to restart the machine to stop the Explorer crashes from happening over and over and over again.
I will keep an eye on the site to see the progress... If any at all. I may even consider loading or trying x32 version and see if I have the same results. Not even 28 minutes ago I posted that I reloaded and that I was finished and all ready I have a crash.
From the little I have lo

Right-clicking in OS shell causes Explorer crash and restart
location:

I am one of the many who have an issue with explorer crashing when I right-click in the OS shell in Win 7.
When I right-click on an item (e.g., file, folder, library, shortcut in the start menu, ...) explorer frequently crashes...displaying a message box...and then eventually displaying another message box (with a progress bar) stating that explorer is restarting.
The issue is sporadic. It may happen consistently for some period and then it may not happen again for a little while.
The issue started on my 64bit Win 7 Pro system after a clean install. I had also installed other software (late versions from the web...not old code). Thus, I started uninstalling things...and also used

Clicking desktop URL shortcut causes error message (FireFox 0.9.3)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
October 6, 2004
I just made Firefox my default browser, Win 98SE. When I doubleclick a URL desktop shortcut, I get a message saying "Cannot find the file 'C:WindowsDesktopName of website.url'. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." Firefox then opens the website anyhow (in a restored sized window, not maximized).
I have a feeling that I have a problem with the File Type actions (Start/Settings/FolderOptions/File Types) of one of the URL types or Internet Shortcut.
1. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this?
2. If not, could someone post the path & description in the Internet Shortcut & one of the URL dialog boxes, including the DDE settings?
Thanks,

Windows 8 Explorer crashes when right-clicking a hard drive or any directory
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 21, 2013
Hello,
I have just purchased a new PC with Windows 8 Professional.
I installed Eset Smart Security and a few other utilities.
When I make a right click on any hard drive or any directory in them, the explorer closes and I'm back to the desktop.
Hard drives:
- 256 Mb SSD for system and program files
- 1 Tb for data
- 1 Tb for system & data backup
Any ideas on how to fix this ? Any way to debug to trace the problem ?
Note that I made a system integrity check from the command prompt and can submit the log file if needed.
Thanks,
David

Hi,
i bought a new laptop (HP Envy m6-1140sg) some weeks ago. I have Nortin Internet Security installed.
I wanted to try out that NIS Trial Reset because HP Laptops have NIS already installed. I rebooted my Laptop into safe mode with Network and then started it. I accidentally chose to Purge my NIS. I didn't know what purge means. . I opened the Trial Reset app again and chose to revert my trial to 60 days. Then it disappeared. I rebooted my laptop in Normal Mode and then tried to open NIS. But it didnt come up. I uninstalled NIS and then I noticed this:
When I try to open the Explorer on the desktop, the screen would just go blue and then Explorer closes itself. 2. When I right click a shortcut or anything the screen also goes b
