location:

A computer at work is no longer booting up properly, and continues to go to safemode. I know there is a way to make the computer look back and revert to the last good moment, start up, configuration, etc. How do I make the computer do this? Thank you for your help

Windows 7 fails to start; Start-up repair won't work; Last know good configuration won't work
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 15, 2011
Windows 7 64 bit machine; automatic Windows updates were installed overnight; began acting strangely this afternoon. After an attempt to re-boot, got the "Windows Error Recovery" screen with the "Windows Failed to Start. A recent HW or SW change
might be the cause" message. When I try "Launch Startup Repair" a screen comes up but just hangs. When I try "Start Windows Normally", it takes me back to the Windows Error Recovery screen. When I hit f8 to during start-up to get the "Advanced Boot Options"
screen and try to enter Safe Mode or use the Last Known Good Configuration option, each takes me back to the Windows Error Recovery screen.
Any ideas on how to get this resolved?? Thanks!!!

"Can't change show Hidden files and Folders option, keeps reverting back to hidden"
location:
microsoft.com - date:

This question was already raised before (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/cant-change-show-hidden-files-and-folders-option/06aef27b-ee4d-46c4-a51b-d4647b5bfc5c). But can someone really answer this question? I already followed
all the suggested ways to solve the problem in the link above but still the problem persists. I was able to change the value of Hidden (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced) in the said regedit location to 1. But when
I opened the regedit again, the value is back to 0. I think that is where the problem is. Thank you very much for your support and your time.

No audio driver after reverting back to Windows XP (SP3)
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I bought this laptop a few years ago, and since then, upgraded from XP (originally installed OS), to Vista, then Windows 7, and now because of a problem I was having with Dell drivers I've just put it back to XP so I can find drivers I need.
After I installed XP, I noticed I had no volume option in the bottom right hand corner, and whenever I get an alert it does that old school BIOS beep which I have no control over it's volume.
Everytime I turn the laptop on I get a "Found New Hardware" Wizard, and when I tell it to install the hardware it ends saying "An error occurred during the installation of the device. A device attached to the system is not functioning"
It's trying to install the IDT High Definition Audio

Configuring Windows Update -Failed, Reverting back..
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi there,
I turned on my laptop today, and I got the message "Windows failed to configure updates, reverting changes' at the logon screen, and it just loops there forever, even if i leave it there for like an hour. I can't shutdown or restart, unless I power it down.
I tried to boot into safe mode, but i can't do that either, I get the same message, and last known configuration doesn't work either.
I go to system restore, and it just fails on every system restore image. says something about failing to extract a different file each time, and the registry could not be copied on one of them.
It won't let me run a SFC /scannow check either, and I just can't get passed the logon screen stage. Startup repair doesn't help either, jus

Uninstalled IE9, not reverting back to IE8
location:

I uninstalled the IE9 update I had to have it automatically revert back to IE8. However, my Windows does not have IE8 in "Turn on Windows Features on or off" menu.
I'm using a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit upgrade from Windows Vista (the key can't be used with a 'normal' install disc).

Windows XP endlessly reboots; won't boot in Safe Mode and Last Known Configuration doesn't work either
location:
microsoft.com - date:
April 2, 2010
Hello! I recently installed Wubi, and am enjoying it well. However, a few days ago, when I tried to boot XP on my netbook (an EEE PC 1005hab), it just endlessly reboots back to the OS selection screen.
I have tried Safe Mode and Last Good Known Configuration with no avail. What should I do now? Ubuntu has stopped working suddenly, so I can't access my data.
I do not have a Windows XP CD, there is some weird Asus recovery thing instead. Also, this is a netbook so I don't have an optical drive to run recovery CDs on. I'm trying to make a USB Linux Livecd so I can backup my data... but is there
anything I can do but reinstall at this point?
Thanks.
