Remove everything and reinstall Windows takiing too long?
location:
8forums.com - date:
January 19, 2013
I've had a few problems with my PC for a few days so I thought just doing a clean-install would do the trick, however, the 'Resetting your PC' (currently at 23%) page has been going slow for about 2 hours now. I've not done this before so I'm not sure how long it should take, but I've been doing some research and it said about 30 minutes without BitLocker.
Is there a problem or is this normal?
Regards,
Saint Andrew

Cannot remove folder - filename or extension too long
location:
7forums.com - date:

This happened on a Windows XP SP3 32-bit computer. I am trying to delete the backup files created by the Memeo program that comes with Seagate GoFlex Home NAS. I selected the root folder of the backup files and pressed delete, which started the deletion process of some 30 GB sized backup. After the deletion went for a while, the error message popped up saying "Cannot remove folder <folder_name> - the filename or extension is too long". I checked in Windows Explorer and saw that all the files are gone except just a few which are some 20 folders deep, and have filenames that are around 60 characters long.
After looking around on help sites, I am guessing that this happened because Windows can't handle file paths that long. S

undesired synced settings return after "remove everything and reinstall windows"
location:

I've completed the "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" procedure. After this, I signed in with my Microsoft account and had a nice, clean, default Windows 8 environment.
Then, about 30 minutes later, BAM: all of the settings that had been synced to the cloud before removing and reinstalling were re-applied to my computer.
I want to start over! I don't want to try to backtrack my way back to a clean, one setting at a time. I don't even remember what the default settings are! I just want to install windows from scratch and start over with configuring windows. I want to
DELETE all of my settings that are stored in the cloud and start fresh.
In the Microsoft account settings, t

Remove everything and reinstall Windows

Okay, so my question is: When I hit that big shiny button, will it wipe EVERYTHING, and restart from scratch just as if you were installing it fresh? or will it still keep things like graphics drivers, and third party leftovers?
I intend to start over as if it were a clean install (don't worry, i'm backed up, and know what I'm getting myself into.)

I just bought a new Sony vaio laptop with Windows 8 64 bit installed. this is not a touchscreen system and i am finding the new windows 8 environment very difficult to work with. I would like to remove the operating system and revert to Windows 7 ASAP.
Can someone please help me. I am also finding lots of problems with drivers and simple device driver installations. Things that just work in windows 7 just dont seem to work (for me at least) windows 8. I have worked in IT for 12 years so I'm not a complete
technophobe. Thanks peter
