How to reinstall Windows 8 after a total format
location:

Good morning,
I bought my laptop seven months ago (HP), which came with Windows Vista, and I got the promo offer by Windows to install Windows 8, and I bought it and got the promo code.
However, I faced a problem yesterday with my laptop, and had to do a total format to the laptop losing everything on it.
To reinstall windows, I used my recovery CDs to install Windows Vista, thinking that I can simply therefore upgrade to Windows 8 again. But, it seems that I'm required to buy it once again! Is that true? I ran Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant and it did not give
me the option to just install Windows normally.
So, how do I upgrade to Windows 8 once again from Windows Vista? I still have the promo Code, and I have my or

Original Title: Reinstall Windows 8 Software Development Kit?
I downloaded this and the installation failed, however now whenever I run the setup for the SDK it says that it is installed and is the most recent version. I can confirm the install failed and there is no other options for reinstalling, repairing, uninstalling,
etc.
Does anyone know how to get around this?

Reinstall Windows 8 OEM- no product key

I've seen similar problems to this all over the place. I bought a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8 installed on a 1 TB HDD and used a 16GB mSATA SSD as a cache. My plan was/is to upgrade the 16GB SSD to 120GB and install the OS to it. Lenovo support initially told me this was impossible, but I talked them into send me the system restore disks, however they proved to be of limited utility.
I installed the new SSD but the options weren't there in the recovery disks to choose the install location, it just reinstalled to the HDD. So I used a Windows 7 install disk and did a clean install of Windows 7. So the computer is set up how I want it now (OS on SSD and User and ProgramData folders on HDD) except I'd like to upgrade it to Windo

Will the Windows Media Center Free Product Key activate if I had to reinstall Windows 8 from scratch?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
March 5, 2013
I use Windows 8 Pro, upgraded from Windows 7. I availed the Windows Media Center free product key offer and installed/activated successfully.
My question is, if I happen to format reinstall Windows 8 in future, of course, first install Windows 7 and then again upgrade to 8, will I able to activate Media Center with the same free product key? I know I have to use Windows 8 key first to activate
Windows 8 and then use the WMC key. But because it is a free key, will it activate without any issues?
Thanks for any answer!

Factory reset to XP on a Windows 8 netbook
location:

I have recently upgraded my Asus EeePC 1000HA netbook with XP and Toshiba Portégé M800 notebook with Vista to Windows 8 Pro. Toshiba is working well but on Asus I am unable to use Metro screen and all the apps because the native screen resolution is 1024
x 600 pixels. So far, I have not been able to find a way to increase the resolution to at least 1024 / 766 pixels as required by Windows 8. Now I want to consider the option of going back to XP again. I tried "F9" at the start and it did not work. I tried
the "XP recovery disc" on Toshiba (as my Asus does not have a DVD player) to see if it would work and I got the message "Not compatible with your OS." So, I assumed the Asus disc would not be compatible
