Realtek AC97 audio driver (not HD driver)
location:

After installing Windows 8 on a Toshiba satellite laptop, all went well except Realtek AC97 won't install. Re-installing the driver didn't work. Windows reveals a code 10 and mentions the driver did not install correctly. Naturally there are no sound devices present with this occurrence. Plugging in an external USB sound device (creative sound blaster) works perfectly, just not as convenient as having the internal Realtek AC97 sound device working. BTW, this is not an HD sound driver, it's the regular Realtek driver. Tried a driver download from three additional sources w/o success.

Realtek HD Audio Driver AND nVidia HD drivers?
location:
7forums.com - date:
September 30, 2010
I am installing a new Win 7 build on my new-build PC. I have a question...
My Asus P6X58D-E motherboard has onboard Realtek HD audio, for which one would expect to install the Realtek HD drivers. I just installed my nVidia graphics card driver (before installing the sound drivers) and the latest beta gives you the option to install or not install the "nVidia HD Audio driver".
Now, I will want to use audio over HDMI sometimes to output from my PC to my TV via HDMI - so I opted to install the nVidia HD Audio driver. My question is: do I also install the Realtek HD audio drivers? There are currently 4 "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" items showing up in device manager, plus one separate "High Definition Audio D

Realtek HD Audio 2.68 audio driver download from Guru3D.com
To easily install, go to device manager first. Then right click the Realtek audio, choose uninstall and also check the box to delete the driver.
This saves you a reboot in the process to install. When you run the installer, it won't demand a reboot before actually installing the driver.

Windows 7 RTM / Realtek HD Audio drivers not installing correctly.
location:
microsoft.com - date:
November 20, 2009
I have a macbook pro, and I have been told that I need to install the latest Realtek HD audio drivers, as the drivers included on the OSX cd are not the right ones.
I have downloaded both the executable installer for the drivers, and the zip file, but whichever way I approach it, after installation and restarting, I'm left with a little red x over my audio icon in the bottom right, no sound, and after a quick diagnostic
I'm told that there is a problem with the Realtek driver.
The windows HD audio driver, which it reverts to if I ask windows to "fix" the problem does not give me any sound out of my speakers, no microphone usage, and is just otherwise awful.
Why am I having trouble getting the drivers to work?

New Realtek HD Audio Manager Driver Problem with Microphone
location:
7forums.com - date:
May 29, 2013
Hello, I'm CrazyKilla
So I recently got a new motherboard and because it's a new board, it came with it's own audio drivers, and my old ones were useless (obviously). I installed these new audio drivers and i found that it changed the look (and most likely the software itself) of the Realtek HD Audio manager, before i got the new Manager, my microphone and audio both worked fine, now my audio still works fine, but my mic is messed up, when i talk, it doesn't pick it up, but if i blew air into the microphone, it picks it up but it is crackling, if i blew into the mic for 3/5 seconds then it would completely stop picking up the sound. Nothing happened to my mic during this process.
