Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit (Full Version) - OEM Question
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I'd like to install the full version, (a clean install) of Windows 8, not RT nor Pro in a newly created partition and have a dual boot, win7/Win8. The software is available at Newegg, as well as from Amazon. Microsoft doesn't have a full version as yet
or so I'm told my Microsoft.
Newegg's site http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416550&Tpk=32-416-550
Under "Details" on that site it states:
Use of this OEM System Builder Channel software is subject to the terms of the Microsoft OEM System Builder License. This software is intended for pre-installation on a new personal computer for resale. This OEM System Builder Channel software requires the

Upgrading to Windows 8 64 bit from XP 32 bit using the $39.95 download
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 27, 2012
The Windows 8 website states the following:
Can I upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 8?
Yes, but you can't do this using Upgrade Assistant. If your PC has a 64-bit capable processor (CPU) but is currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can install a 64-bit version of Windows 8, but you'll need to buy Windows 8 as
a DVD.
You also won't be able to keep any files, settings, or apps when you upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit version.
My question is this....what is different from the download version and the actual DVD? Why can't I purchase the download version, save it to a DVD, and then use it to upgrade from XP 32 to W8 64 using a clean install

Windows Media Player, MPEG video, and Windows 8, 64-bit
location:

I'm in the process of importing video from by digital video camera, and all the files are in mpeg format. The audio plays in windows media player, but no video. I installed the latest version of WMM, that won't play them. I installed the latest quicktime, no dice. I installed instacodec, no dice, but I'm not sure what I was supposed to do with it once it was installed. I'm using Windows 8, 64-bit, which I regret often. Anyone out there have tip or trick that I can use to get these suckers to play correctly? It looks like the system sees them as audio files. Thanks in advance!

Windows 7- 32 bit to Windows 8- 64 bit.
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I have the Windows 8 64 bit software on my computer but when I run the .exe file, it is giving me an error saying that "The version of the file is not compatible with the Windows I have currently (Windows 7 32 bit). Check your computer for compatibaility."
I downloaded the windows upgrade tool and it says that Windows 8 is compatible with my computer. I asked the laptop manufacturer and they say that my laptop is 64 bit compatible. On the Windows website, it says that if I am to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit,
I have to do a custom installation but I do not have any option to do so. Could I please be given some information as to what I should do. Thank you very much.

I want to find a substitute for gwbasic to run under windows 8 64 bit and a versatile editor.
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I recently bought a new computer and decided to go all the way and install windows 8 in 64 bit mode. I am having endless problems getting a decent
editor (which can handle newlines and returns in finds and replace commands) and finding a gw basic interpreter / compiler equivalent to run under this operating environment (small basic is an absolute nonsense). Can anyone help or do I go backwards to windows
7 or windows xp ?

In Windows 8 64, Can not remove read only attribute from folder inside of a programData folder
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Hello!
The Problem:
I am trying to remove the read only attribute of a folder living inside of the ProgramData folder. I ran into this problem once before with windows 7 defender years ago. So I know this problem can not be resolved by my suto windows 8 administrative privileges.
I have already done the security tab
with the add full admin control and become the owner of the file with the Auditing and the jello pudding pops but no dice so I know that this can only be resolved by a series of commands in the cmd that I don't know.
Platform:
Windows 8 64bit
Error message:
You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes
The path in question:

Quick questions for HP M9340F - 6GB ram + TV tuner.
Upgrade assistant - The hardware came back all good and the majority of software (I realize some will require updates).
1). Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC. Your PC's firmware doesn't support Secure Boot so you won't be able to use it in Windows 8. Is this an issue?
