Power Buttons settings, not allowing to hibernate
location:
7forums.com - date:

My laptop (running standard Windows 7 HP) seems to miss the option to hibernate. In the power button settings (not sure if I call it correctly, I have a different language than English set in Windows) all the options to choose actions for power button, sleep button and lid close are greyed out. There is a message saying enable changes or something like that (with the Admin-shield icon). Even from the administrator user, after clicking the message the options remain greyed out and a new message appears saying something like "options can't be loaded" and redirects me to Windows help, which of course doesn't know anything.
I think this has something to do with the fact, that the notebook is Samsung. It was promoted to extremely fast

Windows 8 sharing settings not persistent
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Any advice / pointers welcome...
I set up my home server on Win8 (Pro N version) based on a Windows Secrets article last year and have been successful except... I was never able to get sharing working as I wished.
I set up local machine accounts on the server with the same user names / passwords as on (several) client Win7 machines that have the same user/password set, but could not get the Win8 server to share folders with specific users.
So as fallback I share all the folders with the Homegroup as read/write (not ideal but it's just a few trusted users).
But - every time the system reboots (due to Windows Updates, or a power failure, or just an administrative reboot), all the shared folder settings revert to read only. I have to Remo

Windows 8 brightness settings not responding to the moniter.

Hello. I've had trouble with this for some time now. It seems that no matter what settings I change for the brightness in the Control Panel, it will always stay at the same brightness level, as if I had done nothing to change it. The only way I can lower
or brighten it is by pressing the lower/brighter keys on the keyboard. Also, the Adaptive Brightness option does not work either. Please help!

Volume Buttons is not adjusting volume on new keyboard
location:
7forums.com - date:
March 1, 2012
Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.
First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.
A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)
Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Homegroup computer not allowing access to printers or files
location:
7forums.com - date:
September 15, 2012
I have been spending the whole night trying to reconfigure my Windows 7 desktop to allow me to connect to shared files and print with the printer, both of my computers are windows 7 and in a homegroup, I have made sure all the correct services are running., Windows troubleshooting does not solve the problem as usual! I have not printed in a while, so I decided to go in and try to connect to the printer, and the printer is showing as offline. I try to install a new printer since homegroup says a new printer was found, but this does not work, I try to access shared libraries on the computer with the printer and keep getting the error. This account is not allowed to access this shared resource. I have it set up to allow sharing without pas

Hi ,
I installed windows 8 on my laptop. It created temporary folders and also moved my previous windows 7 components to Windows.old folder. I am trying to get rid of this folder as i have limited space on my hard disk. However, the SYSTEM is not allowing that to happen.
Also there is "$WINDOWS.~BT" folder which looks like a temporary folder, but i am not able to remove it as well.
If any one has got rid of them, kindly help
Thanks

Laptop will not sleep, hibernate or shutdown
location:
7forums.com - date:

For the past few days Windows refuses to shutdown. Everytime I select the sleep, hibernate or shutdown options it will reboot/reawaken straight away. I have tested the RAM which had no problems, I reinstalled Windows completely which didn't help & I checked power settings in BIOS to disable auto-restart. Laptop works fine when on, just refuses to power down - only holding the power button will get it to stop doing anything! Very annoying, can anyone help? Cheers.

Share folder settings not being applied to all files within path
location:
7forums.com - date:
May 6, 2012
Hi,
I have an SMB share set up but certain files within the path do not have the same share settings as others.
The path is set up to my TV folder and an example of the issue is below
TV/Walking Dead/Season 1 - this works all files can be seen
TV/Walking Dead/Season 2 - I can see the folder and open it but I can't see any of the files within it.
When I go to the files and look at properties -> security the files I can see and those I can't see have different settings. The files i can see are shared to Everyone, System, My login, Administrators.
The files I can't see are shared with Authenticated users, System, Administrators, Users.
I've tried removing the share from my TV folder than reapplying it, but I get the same re
