Dear Members, while trying to share folders and files not within a homegroup, but with workgroup, I create 2 same accounts on my desktop pc and my notebook that have windows 8 installed on them. Then I share folders and when accessing dtPC or notebook windows does not ask for a password, just opens the files under the network group. However when i start windows and try to access shared folders right away, it gives me the message that the path was not found. Only a while after that it gives me the access. If i try to do the same thing but with the notebook what has windows 7 installed it asks me for a password and username as expected and everything goes well. Could you please explain why can't I make windows 8 ask for credenti

Hello everyone! I don't usually go the "beg for help on an unknown forum" route but I'm clearly out of my depth on this issue and hours of furious Googling and tweaking have not helped me one bit. What I'm trying to do is trying to setup file sharing between 2 computers connected by an ethernet cable. So far so good, except those 2 computers are ALSO part of a Wifi network to connect to the internet through a wireless router. There are other computers on this network (other roommates) that must NOT have access to anything shared on either on those 2 computers. I've tried fiddling with homegroups but the only homegroups we can create are on the WiFi network. If I set the LAN connection to anything else but public by setting

Sync Libraries between 2 pc's

Hey Is it possible to sync libraries between 2 pc's across a network? Both pc's are running Windows 7 Professional, and both are in the same HomeGroup What i would like to do is sync my music collection between my netbook and my main pc, so the files in my music library on 1 pc are copied to the music library on the other. I've tried playing around with sync center but the offline files doesn't store them where i want them to and i seem to only be able to access them through the sync center. Also tried robocopy and such but haven't had much luck with that either Are there any other alternatives? Or am i missing something? Thanks

Problem sharing files between 2 windows 7 computers?

I have a windows 7 desktop computer that I am trying to setup to share folders with a windows 7 laptop. On the desktop computer I am able to share any folder, apart from those on the desktop (if I try and share these I get: “you do not have permission to access”). On the laptop the only place I am able to share folders is in C:\Users directory. If I try and share folders from any other location I get: “you do not have permission to access” I can’t understand this as I have setup folders share preferences to share with “Everyone” and have enabled full control with change , and read. I have disabled windows firewall and have no programs interfering with this. I have also disabled password requirements. Does anyone know how I can enable my lap

Hi everyone and merry Christmas! I followed the procedure found on the web, I entered "netplwiz" and did uncheck “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". There is no password set. THere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator. (the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...) the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon? thanks a lot in advance

Want to install Windows 8 on a locked Win 7 PC (no password)

I have just bought a second-hand acer all-in-one PC from a cash gen type shop. Unfortunately it is locked with a password. I plan to go tomorrow as soon as the shop opens and ask for the passowrd to unlock it, hopefully that will be provided, HOWEVER they may not know and will ask for it back to be sent off etc. I don't want that as there are instructions on here for resetting the password and I will try it myself. But I don't think I really need all that hassle anyway, I have bought the Win 8 Pro upgrade DVD and I always intended to upgrade to that anyway. My question is this: if I go to BIOS and set the boot to the optical drive and boot from the Windows 8 disk, will I be able to do the Windows installation (a clean one to get r

No image only sounds when playing video

I got a few movies and a few clips of things. but when i play it, the image wont show except for the sound. It has worked previously on VLC (I just downloaded), Windows Media Player, and the new Windows 8 Player thingo. Please help me fix this problem that ive never had before.
