Multiple instances (dozens) of conhost.exe running. Windows 7 Pro (32-bit)
location:
microsoft.com - date:
July 21, 2010
I've seen a lot of users referring to this but never really getting anywhere toward keeping it from happening.
I get dozens of "conhost.exe" processes launching throughout the day that never go away. I run itunes (latest, 9.2.0.61) , Outlook (2007, 12.0.6535.5005) and an old DOS program called Q&A (version 5.0). I figure this could be the culprit, but I'd like
to know if anyone could say with any certainty or how to make it stop.
I put an image of my task manager on snapfish (there's gotta be a better way of doing this, but I've never done this). It was snapped when there weren't many. As of now, there are about 30, all around the same size as the ones in the picture, so it star

There are multiple instances of explorer.exe running in task manager (currently 7), each one using between 10-40MB of memory.
location:

Different explorer.exe processes are using cpu resources at different times. I remember reading a while back that this could be a sign of a virus, but I've done a full scan with NIS 2010 and nothing showed up. Can anyone give me pointers where to start
investigating?
I did a clean install of Windows 7 last Friday -formatted HDD and all, so there hasn't been much time for anything bad to happen!

Multiple instances of explorer.exe running.
location:
microsoft.com - date:

seems to me everytime your going into "games" or "computer" in the start menus to access your directories another instance of explorer.exe opens. when you close out of the hd directory window taskmanager still shows it as opened, thus an extra 10-40 mb
of ram used until the process is manually ended by me. scanned with multiple virus programs ie(AVG, MCAfee, Defender, Spyware Doctor...etc) this is not recognized as a problem. this has probably came up before but I failed to find any answers yet.

Hello everyone ;) I am doing an install for a Government Program called AIS (Aboriginal Information Services) and I have gotten past some registry issues that occur during the prerequisite software install (inbuilt bugs the company provided a fix) , however
once the prerequisites are installed i try to install the AIS software and it gets about 10% in and then i get this error "Installation failed, Access Denied "winhttp.dll"" I have pretty much bing'd and Google'd the **** outta this one and basically 99.9999999999999998%
of all DLL related searches are just bunged up junk that will cause you more of a headache then the initial issue will. so that being said, I know in the past versions of windows like XP you could

Running Windows 7 Ultimate RTM and have a problem with wmpnetwk.exe
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Hi all sorry for reviving this thread, but I have intalled Win7 Ultimate x86, clean install, minimal software installed, all windows updates, on my HTPC system.
My HTPC has 3 HDD's one for storing recorded TV, (160GB) this drive just acts as a temporary store, until MCEBuddy converts the .wtv files stored on it to .avi files which are then stored on a seperate 1TB HDD which also contains my Music Files, and movie
files, the third HDD is a 160GB HDD, used solely for Windows and applications.
I will be adding a 2nd 1TB HDD shortly as the 1st one is almost at capacity, 890GB of media files stored on it.
I have 4 machines in total: bedroom HTPC, workstation PC, a netbook for portable use, and of course the main HTPC, all

Questions on running Windows 7 trial on VMWare
location:
7forums.com - date:
October 3, 2011
I have a Windows 7 64-bit installation disc that I used to install Windows 7 with on my laptop. I am planning on installing Windows 7 on VMWare player with the same 64-bit disc, but as a trial (since my main key is used on the main host/laptop). Will I be able to just run the 30-day trial on VMWare for testing purposes? Also, once the trial ends, can I just delete the virtual machine and make a new windows 7 VM, setting up a 30-day trial again? Thanks.
