IE 10 is taking forever & I have not gotten any windows update since April 9, and today is April 27
location:

Hello,
I am tired, I have not received any windows update since April 9, 2013. Also when I go into the internet it takes
me about 10 minutes to even search one thing. What do we need to do to fix this problem.
I have windows 8 Pro, I cannot seem to resolve this issue. I clean a lot of my files to not be so bog down with stuff.
I have a lot GB, so I would think this is not the problem, I would think.
Please Help, Help, and Help me.
Thanks

Restore taking forever
location:
7forums.com - date:
July 29, 2011
I just got a new laptop and after doing all the Windows and drivers updates, an annoying problem started. It wasn't anything serious, but I wanted to get rid of it. After failing to diagnose the problem I decided to use System Restore.
I'm at the screen that reads "Please wait while your Windows files and settings are being restored. System Restore is restoring the registry..." and there's a spinning blue circle, but it's been like this for over two hours now (I read on forums that it shouldn't take more than an hour). I tried powering off, but it just puts the computer to sleep/hibernate mode. When I power back up, I'm back at the "Please wait while your Windows files..." screen.
What should I do at this point?

Disk Defragment taking forever!
location:
7forums.com - date:
December 27, 2009
I got this HP G60-508US notebook for my son for Christmas, and now we're having problems with how slow it's running. I'm pretty well versed in keeping our home computer in top shape, but this laptop is driving me nuts! It's not like we've loaded up the C drive with crap either. I decided to go ahead and load some of his favorite websites on it, and he'd only used it a day before having slowdown problems. The screensaver would freeze up, taking a long time for the main screen to come back on, and he said the internet was running slow. So I did a disc cleanup like I always do with ours, then I went into Disc Defragment to see how things looked. Man, how slow is this thing suppose to run? I've never seen a Windows XP program run as slow

CHKDSK taking forever on 60 GB HDD.
location:

i'm checking for errors on my secondary HDD and it's been stuck around the same spot for like forever (it's like 3 hrs into the error checking). B4 checking for errors, I already know that the HDD has a SMART event. If CHKDSK is taking forever, does it also mean that my HDD is gonna fail?
EDIT: finally it's done after like 4 hrs.

Shutdown is taking forever.
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hello,
I have a fairly recent Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation on an SSD. After first install, boot and shutdown were incredibly fast. I have added relatively few programs (there are currently only 2 items which appear in the Startup tab when I use msconfig. Intellitype and the Bell Security bundle provided by my ISP).
Even after I had installed those two items, shutdown remained speedy. But now the screen will very quickly go blue with the Shutting Down.... message, and remain like that for 4-5 mins. I had a look in Event Viewer's Shutdown Performance monitor, and it is filled with RED X's. It has regularly started reporting over 200K ms for shutdown times (3 mins 20 secs or more).
The most common item listed as an Error is &qu

MalwareBytes 2.0.1 taking forever to scan
location:
7forums.com - date:
April 13, 2014
I just had to update to MBAM 2.0.1 because my last installation of MBAM got corrupted somehow. Doing my weekly scan has turned into something hilarious. What used to take four hours with the old MBAM is now on its 23rd hour, and it's still only checking filesystem objects. It still hasn't done the heuristic analysis.
I'm tempted to scrap this scan and reinstall an older version. Has anyone else noticed that the newest version is very slow?
