How often should you empty your recycle bin
location:

Dear Forum,
I am just enquring as to whether or not too permantely delete the contents in my recycle bin and if it is affecting the performance of my machine.
I had the Norton team delete the back up of the previous version of their software and I went for assistance online and they decided to go along with my idea of removing all the items in the %temp% and temp folder.
I gather that the other files - I am not too sure if I may require them down the track.
I did not know that there was that much in the recycle bin and have not been advised on the best action.
I took a few snap shots of what type of items are in the current file at the moment.

How do I join a Windows XP computer to a Win7 homegroup?
location:
7forums.com - date:
January 22, 2012
Or how do I just make the XP box know about the Windows 7 box? They're both fed from the same router so should have IP addresses in the same group - but although the Windows 7 PC can see the XP PC, it doesn't work the other way around.
AFAICT the only place (in XP) where I can view other computers is in my XP workgroup. But Windows 7 uses homegroups which don't seem to be quite the same thing. A workgroup seems to have a name but no password whereas a homegroup seems to have a password but no name.
What am I missing here...?

How do I upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 8?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Original title : Help upgrading from XP to Win8
I have been told four times now by different Microsoft Support agents (2 online, 2 by phone) that an upgrade path exists between Windows XP and Windows 8 using the downloadable software upgrade. I am beginning to suspect I was misinformed.
I have a new hard drive, a product key/license for Windows 8 (with no installation media, ONLY the downloadable upgrade), and product key/license/installation media for both Win XP and XP x64.
I have installed XP x64 on the hdd. BOTH the WIndows 8 Upgrade, and the Upgrade Assistant fail to run, returning the error "Platform not supported."
Support has told me I need to run Windows Update to make sure I have the latest Servic

How do I downgrade to Windows XP? – Windows 8 Sucks bad
location:

I too have been stricken with the Win8 plague. Prior to my ambitious Win8 Pro upgrade, I used Win 7 x64 Ultimate relentlessly for years and the OS was bulletproof. I couldn't ding it despite my rough nature with OS's. Fast forward to Win 8 Pro upgrade.....nothing
but mind boggling problems out of it and I consider myself a borderline power-user. I'm not a programmer but I can work my way in & out easily.

How do I downgrade to Windows XP? – Windows 8 Sucks bad
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Original Title: Windows 8 Sucks bad
My computer came preloaded with Windows 8.
It blows. I mean it really sucks.
My wife's computer came preloaded with windows 7.
It blows but not as bad as 8.
Can I downgrade back to an OS that makes sense like XP?
Windows XP was the bomb for me. Easy to use. Easy to understand and easy to find things on my computer. Time is money and wasting time to find things I put on my computer using the Suckbomb known as Windows 8 costs.
Windows 7 is a little better but, not much.
I want Windows XP back.
Tell me how to do it?

How may I delete "Windows XP Mode" before fully installing
location:
7forums.com - date:

Very glad to find this forum. I am a new to Windows 7 and new to forums as well so please forgive while I learn the ropes. My problem is basically this: I want to remove "Windows XP Mode" from my system but my situation is not the one generally assumed on help pages for removing "XP Mode." My situation is this: I have just (several days ago) turned on my new computer and done the OEM initialization of "Windows 7." Everything went fine. During the initialization I was offered a list of programs/applications that could be installed during initialization. I declined most but accepted "Windows XP Mode." For a variety of reasons I have decided since that I do not want this on my computer. All the

I purchased a desktop six years ago running XP Professional SP 2, Version 2002. The OS has never once had an update downloaded or applied. According to the Product ID, in System, the OS is retail (No OEM in the ID)
Is there a method to find out if the OS is legal and activated ?
