location:

Thanks to this great forum I was able to install Win 8.1 on my laptop (Dell Studio XP 1340).
Resolved here: Windows 8.1 RTM installation fails on Dell XPS 1340
As per advice I got here I had to disable Bluetooth in BIOS to be able to install the system.
Now with the system up and running I would like to use Bluetooth. The device is not listed in Device Manager and no driver was installed. When I enable it in BIOS system will not start, it crashes with error (https://www.dropbox.com/s/l8ith0xljh...2020.34.11.jpg).
I found the driver which should be installed. So with Bluetooth still disabled I tried to install it. It's in exe so I can't really get the driver files. The SW asks for Bluetooth to be activated by a switch. I have a bu

Hi folks,
I decided to install Win 8.1 RTM x64 yesterday but what I expected to be a breeze turned into a nightmare. Installation fails, I am even unable to get into Safe Mode.
I was running Win 7 Ultimate x64 before without any issues whatsoever.
I already described my issues here, with errors and logs: Windows 8.1 RTM installation fails on Dell XPS 1340
Would anybody please help me?
Many thanks!!
Update: changed memory from 2x4GB to original 2x2GB but completely same issue

How to get Shortcuts in Win8 not put the suffix "shortcut"
location:
8forums.com - date:
April 1, 2013
In Windows 8, what does one need to do, so that when one creates a shortcut, it does not have "shortcut" added to the end of the name?
Of course one can rename the shortcut and delete that suffix, but simpler it they were not created that way from the outset.
I managed to stop that behavior in WinXP and Win7, but I forget how, and I don't know if it is done the same way in Windows 8 anyhow.
By the way, I do not mind the little arrow on shortcut icons, a little reminder that it is a shortcut (but no need for "shortcut" to be added to the name.)
Also, if I create a shortcut on my WinXP computer, it does not add a file extension. For instance, if I create a shortcut to a file named "program.exe",

Hi,
I have about 6GB being used for the recovery partition, which I would like to recover. I have made a back up disc. When I go into disk manager, select the partition that I want to delete, right click, the only option is "help".
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

problems Installing on Dell XPS all in 1 RAID setup
location:
8forums.com - date:

I have a new pc, with a raid setup, one small ssd drive for fast booting, and a 2 tb drive
when I try to install win 8 via the "upgrade" method, it seems to install, but at the end, i get the failed to install message.
its a dell xps one 27, and only 3 weeks old; I see a bunch of upgraded files and drivers on the dell site for win 8, but I assume you dont install those until after you have win 8 installed...of course, that is a moot issue until I get it installed!
I dont want to "break" my raid apart just to install win 8, so is there another way?
should I try and boot from the dvd I burned from the iso, and install it that way? And, if I do that, does it go on the small ssd drive or on the 2tb drive? Anyone fam

Dell Xps l502x surround sound not working
location:
7forums.com - date:
April 2, 2013
Hi
Im trying to play surround sound from my laptop, as above. I have a 5.1 system connected through a mini-optical plug into the sp/dif output of my laptop, and in the waves sound thing, i have selected 5.1 surround, but if i do a sound check, it comes out of the laptop speakers. if i play music or something, it comes out of the front 3 speakers of the surround, but not the sub or the back 2. i tried enabling the virtual surround setting in the digital output for the laptop, but the decode light on the command unit of the speakers still isnt lit (ie the unit knows its not getting a 5.1 signal to decode, its only receiving stereo).
Any ideas?

How do I get the windows 8.1 update using boot camp?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
June 26, 2013
I've been using windows 8 through boot camp on my macbook pro for a few months. I downloaded the Windows update that allows you to download 8.1 from the store, but when I restarted the computer after the update, no pop-up came up for me to download 8.1
from the store, and when I go to the store, the update isn't there. I tried uninstalling the update and then reinstalling it but still received no pop-up. I can't figure out how to get 8.1. As well, my activation for using windows 8 expires in December...would
that matter? Thanks.
