How does Win8 handle WINSXS
location:
8forums.com - date:

My biggest complaint about Win7 is how the WINSXS folder is handled. Basically it simply gets bigger and bigger, and there is no way to reduce it's size.
Is there any information about how Windows 8 handles this? Does it do any better? IS there a way to clean up WINSXS in Windows 8?

How does Windows 7 Backup mode in Windows 8 work?
location:
microsoft.com - date:

Hello folks!
after a hard drive failure that has cost me A LOT I decided to begin backing up my data efficiently. Been looking around for backup software and I have access to two. Norton 360's solution and Windows 8's tools (specifically, the « Windows 7 Backup »).
I have a question about the latter. When I set it up for the first time, it took a GREAT amount of time to complete (talking about more than 10 hours for just more than 300 GB). My backup choices were : User's libraries, C drive, system image. I also set it
to run on a daily basis.
So what I want to know is will it take the same amount of time for the next scheduled backups or will it just complete the existing backup making the process quicker ?
I preferred this me

How Does the Windows 15.99 Upgrade Work?
location:

Hey, I had a few questions about this deal they have going on.
1. How does retrieving the Windows 8 work? They said I'll be able to download it. How many times can I download it? Can I download it whenever I want, for instance, I want to download it a year after I purchased the deal? Microsoft is now taking sign-ups for $15 Windows 8 Pro upgrades, an offer that is available to anyone who purchased a new PC on June 2 or later. To get this straight, I'd like to know if this copy is the full CD. For instance, if I completely reformatted my computer and ran the download from a USB/CD, will it work? Or must i have windows 7 installed and then perform an upgrade?
2. Can the key I retrieve be used on any computer as well as t

How does one modify advanced options for a file type?
location:
7forums.com - date:
November 22, 2010
How does one modify the advanced options for a file type? Example, .PDF files.
In Windows XP, navigate to Windows Explorer, Tools>Folder Options>File Types, find .PDF. Then click Advanced, in there you have the actionc menu (Open, Print, Printto).
I am able to determin how to open and set the file association as listed above, but are curious if these advanced features are availble in Windows 7.
Comparing the registry from an XP to 7 PC I see they share common keys for this:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document\Shell\print\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.FDFDoc\shell\Print\command
etc.
My question is how is this accessable via the GUI or do we have to mod registry to correct Print and Print to functions?
Thanks in advance.
