Windows remote access between Windows 7 and XP Pro?
location:

I'm running XP Pro and my parents just bought an HP PC running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). I have their computer name and have tried accessing it from my PC via the Remote Access feature in Accessories, but I continue getting the message "Unable to connect".
IS this because XP Pro and Windows 7 can't communicate between each other?

Cannot access shares on Windows 7 from XP machines
location:

I have file and printer sharing enabled. I can access these shares from other windows 7 machines on the network, so I know the shares and permissions are correct. I have an active directory and I am logging onto the xp machines with the same account I always do, my own account which is a domain admin. The error I get when trying either \\windows7machinename or windows7machinename\sharename is
windows7machinename is not accessible. you might not have permissions....
the specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
Like I stated above, I know how to create the shares in Windows 7 compared to XP, much different. I can access these shares from other Windows 7 machines, and with different accounts that have the permissions to

Installing Windows 7 over XP
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hi,
I'm desperately trying to get windows 7 installed on my Acer 6292 laptop. I'm currently running XP Pro SP3 on it. I've tried everything I can think of but windows 7 won't boot from DVD or USB.
Just to get this straitened out first of all, my bios is set to boot in the following order USB then DVD then hard drive.
First I tried to make my USB bootable through the commad prompt. I found that to be impossible since my USB won't show on list disk command.
So then I tried the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool. But still it doesn't work. When I try to boot from the USB it says ntldr is missing.
Please help!

How to stop Windows 7 from writing desktop.ini files everywhere?
location:
7forums.com - date:
September 13, 2010
Hello,
so I have issues about hidden files (I always want to see them), and I'm particularly annoyed by this desktop.ini file. As if it wasn't enough that there is one in almost every folder, in Windows 7 there are TWO of them on my desktop!
Also, Windows 7 is always trying to burn/write that file on every removable media I have, including USB memory sticks, external hard drives, CD's, DVD's (and the fact that they aren't rewritable and have been burned and closed by the factory doesn't seem to stop it from getting that file ready to be written to disc), etc. Am I the only one thinking this is insane?
My question is simple - how do I stop Windows 7 from ever creating another one of these files again (that is, until next reinstall or s

How do I completely uninstall printer software and drivers if Control Panel Uninstall a Program utility results in error message?

I have a Brother MFC-9440CN multi-function printer/fax/scanner. When I bought my new 64-bit Windows PC, Brother didn't have any Windows 7 drivers, so I used the original (Windows XP) software to get the device up and running. It did work perfectly - I
could print but not scan. Plus I wasn't able to set it up as a shared printer so other family members on our home network could print to this device.
Now that Brother has 64-bit Windows 7 compatible software and drivers available, I'm having trouble installing it. When I try to install it, I get the message that "MFL-Pro Suite is already installed. Do you want to uninstall and then proceed with installation?"
I click yes and then within the Brother MFL-Pro Suite InstallShield Wizard I g

(SOLVED!) Windows 7 and XP boot loader flip flopping

Hey all,
I have a desktop PC with two hard drives: a 500 gigger with Win 7 Pro x64 installed on it, and a 40GB drive with XP Pro installed. I recently was trying to delete and merge my 100MB System Reserved partition with my primary Win 7 partition, but I didn't do it right, and Windows 7 wouldn't boot. Fortunately, I was able to fix the issue by booting into my XP install and using Partition Wizard to recover the deleted partition. However, it was marked as unallocated space, so I had to mark it as active, and then run Startup Repair so that Windows Recovery Environment could rewrite the files to the new System Recovery partition. It worked, and Windows 7 was just the way it was before I started fiddling with it.
Here's the problem:

Dual booting Windows 7 and XP

Hello. I have looked through the forums, but have not seen this exact problem listed. I hope someone can help me.
I bought a new computer kit last month, and after I got it all together, I installed Windows 7 Pro 64. It has the AMD A8-3850 Quad core CPU, 8gb of RAM, on an MSI A75MA-G55 motherboard, and a 1tb SATA HDD. One of the first things I had to do after installing the OS was to flash the BIOS on the MB. I have everything the way I want it on the computer now, and made a backup image of the C drive.
For the most part, everything is good with Windows 7. The only thing I don't like is with the sound card. I like to sing Karaoke on a website, but I couldn't get the "What you hear" function on the onboard sound card. So I boug
