How exactly does Windows 7 Retail vs OEM
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 22, 2009
Hi All,
I don't fully understand how Windows 7 Retail vs OEM. What I understand is OEM is locked to one computer. AKA Mac address or
BIOS, not sure. However, what happens when my the Intel motherboard fails or I decide to upgrade my system motherboard included, which I like do on a regular basic. Is the OEM version still locked to the original motherboard and if it fails I must purchase
a new OEM copy of Windows 7? Or can it truly be relicensed, if only one copy if active? Is there a method for doing so? It is still a Full Windows 7 license, which I paid for. Can I just replace the motherboard and reinstall it? I don't care about Windows
Support, or the box.

Existing Windows 7 - Adding XP on VHD (external?) to make "dual boot".
location:
7forums.com - date:
October 12, 2012
Hi guys,
Here's the scenario.
A while ago I was using Windows XP Pro on my laptop. I was then forced to switch completely to Windows 7, but because I had so many application and configurations done on the XP, I created a VHD from it (using this) before replacing it. Now, I want to know if its possible to set that VHD beside my current OS as dual boot.
I searched and found solutions, but those are either to add a new VHD (Windows 8 mostly) to the dual boot, or loading VHD in virtual machines.
Also, if it is possible, can I copy the VHD on my external HDD and load it every time from there?
The whole idea is because my laptop is not so powerful and it wouldn't handle VMs very well. Because of the same reason, XP Mode is not an option.

Cannot get dual boot: Windows 7 and XP
location:
7forums.com - date:
May 28, 2012
Hi there,
Thanks for looking.
I have just put together a system for a colleague. It was originally a Windows 7 Utimate on a 250 Gig disk.
I have just added a 1TB disk. At first upon boot up I had the dual boot option of both Windows 7 operating systems and everything was fine. The requirement was to have Windows XP Home installed on the 250gig. I did this while in the new Windows 7 system and rebooted. The dual boot option was no longer available and I could not boot the Windows 7 disk at all. I unplugged the XP disk after trying all the suggestions on Windows 7 Forum related to this problem and booted the 7 disk with the DVD, then carried out the Start up repair several times. It still won't work. I ended up reintalling Windows 7 on the

Running Windows 7 in XP mode no cd/dvd
location:
7forums.com - date:
January 25, 2010
I have two hard drives run in Super-Speed and two DVD burners, all on SATA. Running Asus P6T & i7 920. Running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. When I go to xp mode everything works except the cd/dvd player just shows the virtual cd player. I go to the settings and change it to physical drive D (have tried both D and E) but I can't get the use of either physical DVD drives.
I have uninstalled both the Windows Virtual PC and XP mode and re-installed it but it never shows it. Everything works in Windows 7 and everything else works in XP mode, ie: all USB's windows 7 hard drive.
Except the cd/dvds.
Please, how can I get the CD/DVD burners to show and work in XP mode?
Thanks Doug

Cannot Remote from Windows 7 to XP
location:
7forums.com - date:

I cannot for the life of me get my RDP connection working from Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to my laptop running XP Pro SP3. I can ping the laptop by IP (and now by name as I added it to the HOSTS file in 7) and I can remote from the XP machine to the 7 machine.
I have enabled Remote Desktop on the 7 machine, I have selected "Allow connections from computers running any version of RD...". I cannot see the XP machine in the Network and Sharing centre.
I am logged on to an Administrator account on both machines and they are connected to WORKGROUP. I have allowed RDP connections through the firewall on the 7 machine, and the firewall is disabled on the XP machine. The XP machine is running the Terminal Services service. I do not know ho
