deleted hiberfil.sys in error on win 8 laptop working too fast
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
April 3, 2013
I'm new to windows 8 but was helping on a new setup using a guide I read too fast it recommended turning off hibernate but only on a desktop ( that's what I read too fast ) so my question is if I turn back on hibernate by cmd and powercfg.exe /hibernate on will it rebuild hiberfil.sys?
since turning it off the system is strange ex. pointer doesn't turn into a hand at the top of the modern UI to pull it down to close it. A this is the only tweak I did it must be connected
Any help appreciated Bob

Can't find hiberfil.sys
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I have a puzzle. I had my PC set up to sleep and was having issues with it not waking properly.
I went to look for Hiberfil.sys on the C drive but it doesn't appear.
I have hide hidden files and system files unchecked.
I've done some searches and haven't found a solution.
Anyone have any ideas?

How can I securely delete pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys?
location:
7forums.com - date:
December 28, 2011
I run Windows 7-64 bit Home Premium and work on encrypted containers with TrueCrypt. I'm afraid that such sensitive information (including passwords) may be unencrypted on pagefile.sys or hiberfile.sys. How can I securely delete both of these files? I know there's a method in Windows 7 to delete pagefile.sys at shutdown but I heard from different sources on the net, this is unreliable and does not in fact SECURELY delete the content inside pagefile.sys. Any suggestions?

How can I move Hiberfil.sys?

I would like to move Hiberfil.sys to another partition. I am running out of space and moving this would be easier and less time consuming than to re-size all partitions.

Remove the Hibernation file - hiberfil.sys
location:
7forums.com - date:
September 24, 2012
My hiberfil.sys file is 6GB and I do not use hibernation.
Looking at my Advanced Power Settings (they have been set like this since I got the system):
-- Sleep after is "Never|"
-- Allow hybrid sleep is "Off"
-- Hibernate after is "Never".
And "Hibernate" appears in my Shutdown menu.
But I cannot rename / delete hiberfil.sys. Another program has opened it (it was last accessed when I booted the system).
What do I need to do to remove hiberfil.sys safely?
(I did a Search but did not get to a conclusive answer.)

hiberfil.sys
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Even though this PC has a new ASUS P4B266 board, it cannot, like its predecessor go into hybernation with XP or Win2K. I think it has to do with the SCSI board, but I cannot be sure. It's somewhat irrelevant, since this is a desktop machine, hybernating it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway.
Nevertheless, the System drive © has a 511 MB hiberfil.sys file, that I assume is for hybernating. I'd like to get rid of it, since I could use the disk space. Since its a system file, that cannot be done, or more appropriately, I haven't found a way.
Does anyone know how I might delete the (useless) hiberfil.sys from this system without reinstalling XP?
Thanks a lot for any thoughts.
Sincerely
Bob Harris <img src=/S/gramps.gif border=0
