Windows 8 Issue

I recently purchased a Windows 8 machine (Lenovo Ideacentre q190). The previous version q180 supported installing XP, but the most recent version does not. Before I go and install Windows 7 I want to make sure of a few things.
I understand from reading that I am entitled to downgrade my Windows 8 installation to Windows 7 but I would be left with Windows 7 Home. I previously have connected all of my machines to the domain (ultimately to limit shared folder access) so I guess my question would be..... If I have Windows 7 Home and share a folder, can I limit access on that folder to only certain users from a domain?
On a side note....If I were to purchase a copy of Windows 7 Professional, would there be any issues just installi

Windows 8 x64 - Two Control Panel icons in Taskbar..?!

Since I installed Windows 8 (on top of Vista x64 Ultimate) I have two Control Panel icons in the Taskbar.
If I right click and choose Delete to the one on the left, nothing happens.
If I right click and choose Delete to the one on the right, it deletes, but it reappears after a Reboot.
This is driving me nuts. I only want one icon.
How can I achieve this?

Issue with ati driver 12.6 in windows 8

Hi.
In Windows 8 64bits, amd 4870x2 and 12.6 ati drive I have a issue.
After instals the drive above in Windows 8, when I tray open ccc.exe in system tray icon, this icon disapears for fee seconds came again in system tray and finaly open the ccc menu.
Only when do this, if I shutdown the computer or restart, I have a hang up in shutdown with a image of this link Shutdown Error: app is preventing shutdown - .NET-broadcastEventWindow.4.0.0.0.282af8c.0.

Legality Issue: Windows 8 and WMC key (12/23/2012)

I'm asking here with a high anonymity username, just so that I won't attract too much unwanted attention. (It's bound to get attention, so...)
On December 23rd, 2012, during the period when Microsoft is still doing the free WMC giveaway activity, I have successfully signed up for a free WMC key. Upon receiving the key, I used it to activate Windows 8 that was installed onto an old 80GB IDE drive.
Windows 8 is still activated as of now. (4/22/2013)
I just want to make clear of this little gray area. Am I breaking any laws?

Games For Windows Live, Sign In Issue.

I dont mess with Firewalls.
I run through a router.
I always disable any Firewall setting I see.
I play Street Fighter IV online with Games for windows live.
Ive never had any issues connecting.
I reset the bios on my motherboard, just by pulling out the battery.
(Which im really not sure that this caused the issue).
But now when I try and connect to games for windows live, from inside Street Fighter IV,
I get a
""This profile could not be signed into live. There may be a network problem or the windows live ID service may not be available.
this is day two or three with the issue.
I looked through my bios, to look for any onboard Net card options.

media center guide indexing issue

Hello,
When I go to recorded TV and add program by SEARCH, the only searches that work are CATEGORY and INTERNET TV. All the other searches have the same message. A Caution sign with the message "SEARCH RESULTS MAY BE INCOMPLETE BECAUSE THE GUIDE LISTINGS ARE STILL BEING INDEXED". The problem is they never finish being indexed so I can never search.
Is there a way to force this index alone to rebuild since it only involves the guide listings which otherwise appear to be working just fine.

PS the internet search is weird. never used it before. You can apparently choose GUIDE rather than INTERNET to search and it gives pretty fancy search results including pictures and other data. Or is this just because it searches the

Windows 8 and scottrade (example issue)

While trying to navigate through my Scottrade account I cannot move from tab to tab or if I have to move to page 2 of a list I keep getting the message. 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.. I installed Windows 8 about 1 week ago prior to this my Scottrade had not issues.

IE 10 Windows 8 issue

IE10 issue on Windows 8 Professional 64bit I had occasion to set short cuts to the BBC and Facebook pages on my Taskbar. You do this by dragging down the tab to the taskbar when the page is open at their web site. After launching IE10 from these taskbar icons I found that when FILE EXPLORER was launched elements usually found there had vanished! For instance, I could see the LIBRARIES but could no longer see the drives or My Computer. Signing out and signing back in restored the FILE EXPLORER display to normal, so did a RESTART of the computer.I can repeat this problem at will. How do I report this to Microsoft?
