Fonts suddenly changed (XP Pro SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Hello,
I just had a strange experience where every post to the lounge suddenly showed up in italic. I was beginning to think the lounge had always been that way but then I noticed that Times Roman on my customized about:blank page had been replaced with another font and also the default font in Thumbsplus had gone italic. I'm just wondering what could have caused this? I rebooted and everything seems to be back to normal. My concern is whether it could be the side effects of some virus or some XP quirk I've never run into before.
Thanks,
Chris (Hunt)

other people are logged on message at shutdown (XP Pro SP2)
location:

When shutting down the PC I occasionally am told that other people are logged on. There is another account (my son's) but I always log on using my own account (administrator). Any suggestions as to the cause of this message and any implications of concern?
Many thanks

Log on problem/hang (xp pro sp2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Greetings All
I have a new R61i Thinkpad, win xp pro sp 2, core 2 duo 1.66ghz, 1 gig memory. In setting it up I added a password to the default admin account on the first startup, then created two password protected users, one admin and one limited. I then adjusted view and performance settings, updated windows, set up base software and home networking. I did not make any changes to the log-in procedure that I am aware of.
Now when I start the machine, as the screen first goes from black to blue I get the- "Log on to Windows" box with User Name: Administrator, and Password: (blank), covered with an error message that says- "The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your pass

Domain Logon Problems (XP Pro, SP2)
location:

Intermittently, when I attempt to log onto my computer, I receive the following message:
Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for assistance.
I received this error message sixteen times this morning before I was able to log on. Just a few minutes ago, it only appeared once before I could successfully log back on; however, sometimes I go days without ever receiving the error message.
We don't have an in-house system administrator, and I've called our tech support people in the past but they've never been

starting in Safe Mode (XP Pro SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Because i am having an installation problem with NAV 2005, we have had occasion to restart my computer in safe mode a lot lately. At the beginning of safe mode bootup, administrator and my name are displayed. If administrator is selected, the start bar is not displayed. Also, some o t he icons are missing. If my name is selected, the start bar is displayed as well as all icons.
The reason we want to go to safe mode is we need to delete NAV files and are unable to do so under my name and are hoping that if the administrator is selecte3d we could, but we can't without the start key.
Under user profile, my name is a computer administator.
Any Thoughts on how to get these NAV files deleted? Symantec has been trying to help for severa

SP2 And Defrag (XP Pro SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I'm going to post a link to this thread in the Software Forum since I don't know if my problem is caused by XP or PerfectDisk Defragger. Not too long ago I finally got around to installing SP2 and all other updates to this machine. Haven't had any problems due to that install that I can tell, except for this one. I've run Raxco's PerfectDisk defragger for some time and I have an overnight, scheduled defrag routine setup for several of my partitions. Up until SP2, that procedure has run in very short order without excessive time being spent on any one partition. Since I installed SP2 however, the defrag has spent long periods on my BOOT drive, sometimes lasting as long as two or three hours on a defrag process that used to take only min

Bypass Logon screen (XP Pro (SP2))

Help !!
I have a friend with a computer with XP Pro (SP2) and ONLY one account - Administrator. For reasons I can NEVER imagine, he wants to be able to turn on the computer and go directly onto Desktop without having to go through the logon screen. He is the only user on the computer and doesn't like having a logon screen if at all possible.
I read a Tips and Tricks article which allowed this for XP Home, but can not remember where, when or how. I do not know if this is possible for XP Pro.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help !!!!
NOTE:Selection account inControl Panel and trying to set password to null (nocharacters) did not work. Also, only optioned showed password required.

Log on (XP Pro (SP2))
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I've just taken over a computer set up by someone else. The user accounts are configured so that you have to click on the relevant picture to log on. My past machine (also running XP) was set up so that it just booted straight into Windows without this need to log on - how can I change the new one so it also does this? And still have full administrator rights?
Thanks for any pointers
Nick

Admin User unable to delete files (XP Pro SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
November 8, 2008
Hello, I have a Sony media file. I can copy and/or delete it when using my limited user account but when I try to do the same via my Admin Account I'm told that I don't have the right permissions to do so. Why would this be? Something to do with not using simple file sharing? I tried to take over ownership of the file using my Admin account, but even after doing that I still couldn't delete or copy it. I'm a little concerned.
Thanks,
Chris (Hunt)

no MS bluetooth stack installed (Win xp pro SP2)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
November 15, 2004
To get my phone sync program (Mobiledit!) to work on my notebook I have to remove any third party bluetooth drivers and re-install/activate MS's Bluetooth stack. The advice I have is that if there are no other thirdy party bluetooth drivers, then Win XP SP2 should install its own bluetooth drivers.
However, there is no sign of them. For example, after removing Toshiba's drivers from my Portege 4010 there is no bluetooth icon in the control panel. Nothing shows up in Device manager either.
Any ideas about how I can re-install Microsoft's own bluetooth stack/drivers?
Thanks
Richard
