File:\Boot\BCD missing 0xc000000d
location:
microsoft.com - date:

When I try to boot, with the dvd drive empty, with Windows7 Home Premium disk or the repair disk as per instructions, I receives an error message of: File:\Boot\BCD missing. Status: 0xc000000d. Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required
information. I loaded Windows7 with this same drive and initially everything was working correctly. Then this problem began, the drive is working with all of my other disk. Changed the the statup boot cycle to the harddrive, and this system starts right up???
History: I had had problems with using the upgrade, I would lose everything but the background on startup, so I formatted the harddrive and then loaded the full version of Windows7, from

After booting System Repair Disc, error 0xc000000d winload.exe missing
location:
7forums.com - date:
July 10, 2012
I'm trying to restore my Windows 7 64bit machine to its factory settings at the moment, and I've tried the following but they've all failed.
1.) Boot up and hit F8, select Repair computer, but then it just boots Windows normally.
2.) Create System Repair Disc, and from BIOS boot-up, choose boot from DVD-RW, but when it does that and loads Windows files, Error 0xc000000d and winload.exe missing comes up.
3.) When I tried to insert the installation disc that came with my computer, it's not recognized and nothing happens (during boot from DVD-RW).
*Note - Just today when I tried to do a system restore, it said that I had no previous restore points, but I just restored a week ago, so that might add some info.
Any help please? I'm not too c

Windows recovery, missing/corrupt critical driver error 0xc000000d
location:
8forums.com - date:

I upgraded my Toshiba laptop automatically from 8.1 to 10 when the software came out (months ago) - have had no issues with it.
Then I was using my laptop it flashed blue and turned off. It now comes up with with recovery - your pc/device needs to be repaired (see image) - I'm able to access the recovery settings - have tried refresh, system restore, automatic repair, nothing works and seems to get worse. I've searched for the last day forums and most people seem to have boot/bcd errors and so don't work for this problem. I have a lot of personal files/photos that haven't been backed up for about a month and want to save them! Please help. I've downloaded the Windows 10 iso to a usb - but have only get semi regular access to a Mac

Workarounds for missing Advanced Appearance settings dialog box?
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
April 22, 2013
I know that Windows 8 Home no longer has the Advanced Appearance settings dialog which was present in most all of the prior versions of Windows. Does anyone know how to at least change the window background color from bright white to perhaps a light silver? Is this customizable in other versions of Windows 8, like in the Enterprise Edition?

At least one .NET 3.5 assembly missing in Windows 8 Release Preview / Windows Server 2012 RC
location:
microsoft.com - date:
July 30, 2012
I've noticed the following issue in Windows 8 Release Preview / Windows Server 2012 RC (and been able to reproduce it on three different installations):
When installing .NET Framework 3.5 via "Programs and Features", the following assembly will not be installed:
* System.IdentityModel.Selectors.dll
The problem is, that it is still referenced by System.ServiceModel and can thus lead to exceptions when reflecting the assemblies. Is this a known issue that will be fixed for the RTM?
Regards, Michael

Pretty good video that I wish I'd had a couple of months ago. The author describes it as a, “calmly paced 25 minute video to give new users to Windows 8 a near-complete understanding of the major features.” The Missing Windows 8 Instructional Video - Who moved my Windows 8 Cheese? - YouTube
