New laptop getting horrible internet speeds

Hi. I just received this laptop Asus KSeries 15.6" Laptop 4GB Memory 500GB Hard Drive K55A-SI50301P - Best Buy which for two days has been getting terrible internet speeds around 50-50kbps with Wireless N on a network which gets 2-3 mbps download speed on an old b/g laptop. I have reset the Modem and Router since I initially got a warning on the older laptop that there was another device on the network using the same IP address, but it hasn't returned. I've run the Network Troubleshooter which finds nothing, and reset the adapter. It is fully Updated and has the latest driver, running the Factory install. Needless to say this will be a deal-killer if I can't resolve it.

Why does Windows 8 slow internet speeds?

Do a search on any search engine, and you will see that Windows 8 dramatically slows internet connections at and every each website (speeds within a website are not too bad), no matter how many tweaks and adjustments are made to a computer's configuration. Microsoft seems intent on denying this reality -- but we users would much prefer that it actually invests the time and energy on a fix. I have a brand new HP Envy h8-1520t, souped-up and loaded with all the buzzers and bells, including a "Premium" LAN card. The new HP is sitting across the room from an eight-year-old DELL (Windows Vista) Core Duo machine that absolute whips its tail on internet speed. Basically, Windows 8 stinks. I just recently got a wireless adapter and installed it and the drivers but i am maxing out at 3mbps on every speed test site. when i boot into Ubuntu with the same computer and same wireless card i get up to 9mbps. Please help.

Improving Internet Speeds

Hello! I have 50/5 at home and just looking for ways to get the best out of my internet"z". Last night, I ran a benchmark against my ISP's internet servers and then against Level 3 and a few others. My ISP's DNS servers are slower than frozen molasses compared to Level 3. So, I've since changed my DNS servers. I run a Netgear 3800 router, with 2 Level 3 DNS servers set statically, and a 3rd set to Google's Public DNS (which is considerably slower - possibly due to distance/location). I have Cat 6a STP (I know, overkill) cables I purchased from Monoprice for pennies on the dollar. I know wireless will vary with signal strength, wireless interference, router/network load. I'm just looking for other ways to be a nerd

Window 7 vs Windows 8 Internet speeds

I'm running a dual boot Win 7 / Win 8 PC. Running Speedtest after booting to Win 7 gives me speeds of 17.87 Mbps upload / 4.2 Mbps download. Running the test again after booting to Win 8 gives me speeds of only 1.86 Mbps upload / 4.27 Mbps download. Do you know if something in Windows 8 can provide false data? My feeling is that the speed in Windows 8 is much higher than indicated.

Slow/Unstable Internet Speeds after Win 10 Update
