Import video from my Sony Video Camera via Firewire the playback occurs at twice the speed in Movie Maker Windows 7

I have a new Windows 7 64bit PC, HP Compact w/4 gig memory and duo core processor. I installed a top name firewire card - SIIG DP FireWire 2-Port PCIe. My PC has all the latest patches installed from Microsoft. I have even run FixIT to make sure Media
Player doesn't have corrupt files, unregistered dll's, etc.
NOTE: PCIe as to just PCI - why because TigerDirect was all ready to sell me a PCI card until I said I had a $20 credit, then suddenly the low profile card he originally selected wasn't the right one, I needed the more expensive one
which turned out to be a PCIe (mini bus card). Not sure if this could play into my issue so I'm noting it.
When my video imports (via Video Import program) I ca

Gadget speed problem in Windows 7
location:

I wonder if anyone here experiences any abnormal slowdown of Sidebar gadgets, or some abnormally high CPU usage by the sidebar.exe process itself...?
I have been working on a gadget called "System Animator" (can be found on my Windows Sidebar Gadget Gallery) which is focused on animations and flashy eye candies (yeah, a rare use for a gadget). It runs perfectly fine on Vista. But in the past few months, I have been receiving reports from Windows 7 beta users saying that my gadget runs very slowly on Windows 7. The latest report (from someone using RTM) notices some abnormal CPU usage by the sidebar.exe process besides some sluggish animation performance (in his case, an idle animation still uses 15-20% CPU, and quickly jumps

Wireless speed half that of wired at home

I have a Netgear NR3000 wireless router connected to my cable modem. The desktop PC is wired to the router and Speedtest.net registers speeds of about 35 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. When I use the Speedtest app on my iPhone I get a no more than 16 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Granted these are terrific speeds, but I wonder why the router won't pass the whole enchilada?
As I was typing this, it struck me that it might be an iPhone limitation. I will check on my laptop and see what I get.

Why cant we have the boot and shut down speed that we are all now seeing in windows 8 Consumer Preview, put into windows 7?
location:

A few years ago, when Windows Millennium and Vista Came out, I told Microsoft to take a hard look at Mac, as at the time, they were a faster booting computer.
Now, I am not knocking Microsoft, the have done exactly that, over the years, and now Windows 7 and 8 are here, and provided you have good pc specs, there is not much difference in boot times.
If you can be bothered to put a stop watch from the time you press the power button to the point your desktop finishes loading.
However, Microsoft having just got this boot speed and shut down speed right AT LAST, ( which will give them a real edge in the market, and be a problem for apple Macs) seem to keep changing the internals of Windows as well. (Desktop,

Clock Speed Less Than Advertised?
location:

I use a Hewlett Packard ProBook 4530s running under Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit SP1. In the 18 months I've had this machine, it's seemed slow when comparing it with older machines running under Windows XP. I'd always assumed this was due to Windows 7, which takes an age to bring up a help screen or list the files in a folder (ie do a "directory listing" in DOS-speak). However, recently, it occurred to me that maybe it was overheating and causing the CPU to run at a slower clock speed.
So I downloaded and ran a little program called CPU-Z (see below). This program confirms that I have an Intel Core i3 CPU with a nominal speed of 2.10 GHz. However, it shows an actual speed of 798.33 MHz, ie less than half the nominal sp

What's your memory assessment speed?
location:
7forums.com - date:

I decided to open a thread to show what people are getting with there current memory settings, what improvements are shown with various timing tweaks, speed settings ect.
to access this you MUST have UAC turned off, OR choose 'Run as administrator'. open the command prompt window first, either by opening 'Run' from the start menu and typing 'cmd' --this will only work if UAC is deactivated--, or go to accessories in your start menu locate 'Command Prompt' right click, select 'Run as administrator'.
once opened simply type:
winsat mem
Note: it will not matter what the command path is set to.
