DOS program on virtual xp print lpt1
location:

I have a new machine with Windows 7 and an old dos program (dBase) and an parallel port receipt printer (generic). I have everything up and running on Virtual XP, so I can print from, say, notepad to the printer. Fine. An interesting thing is that if I bring up the printer status bar ("See what's printing") both in Windows 7 and Virtual XP, I see the data pass from the XP status bar to the Windows 7 status bar. Interesting, but if I print from my DOS dBase app., I see nothing pop up in the XP window. My question is thus:
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
1.) can DOS programs print to an LPT1 printer port in Virtual XP?
2.) if so, how?
2.) and, if not, is there some sort of Virtual Windows 2000, and will

MS-DOS program in full-screen mode (XP Pro SP1)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
October 3, 2003
I have recently moved to Windows XP Pro from Windows 98 SE. I have just installed an MS-DOS cashbook program that I have used since PCs ran MS-DOS. It is a "well behaved" program that runs in full-screen mode.
Windows XP it seems has another definition of full-screen and displays the program in the top halp of the screen, with the bottom half black. I have tried compatibility mode, Windows 95, Windows 98, 256 colours, 640x480 etc etc but the results are unchanged ... it runs in the top half of the screen only.
I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to get this program to run in full-screen mode.

DOS Program (XP 5.1.2600)
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
August 30, 2002
I have 2 computers, one IBM laptop and one Compaq desktop, and both are running XP Pro version 5.1.2600. When I try to run a DOS billing program from the laptop it runs fine but when I try to run it from the desktop it gives the error: Cannot SHELL to DOS. I am logged on as administrator on both so I don't think it's a security problem. Any ideas?
One more thing, on the computer where I can run the program, how would I create a shortcut to run a program in DOS?
Thanks.

location:

Recently, Windowx XP Pro was installed on VMWare Workstation.
It works great.
Then, in virtual XP, I see an active Outlook Express.
Since I started to use Windows 7, I missed reading newsgroups in Outlook Express with Win XP.
I tried "news.microsoft.com" or "msnews.microsoft.com" as news server.
It does not work: Unable to connect to the server.
Could someone advise me how to subscribed news service from microsoft for OE?
Thank you.

VirtualBox and Virtual XP mode--very simple questions
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I would like to have a virtual Windows 7 machine to experiment with new software. I plan to try VirtualBox first (since I have Windows 7 Professional I could use Microsoft's virtual capability, but my understanding is that VirtualBox is superior), but I can't locate the answer to a very simple question: Can I use my Dell Windows 7 installation disk with VirtualBox or it is necessary to acquire a second copy of Windows 7?
If I have to have a second copy of Windows 7 then I'm afraid I'm very unclear on what to buy and where I can get it: On eBay and Amazon I see lots of versions of Windows 7 (all of them pretty expensive), from System Builder versions to Upgrade versions. Can anyone give me some guidance on this?
Finally, if I use Microso

How can I install a program in XP for the Admin account only?
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Hi,
I've searched a lot on this question, but haven't found a good answer as yet. Here's the situation.
I'm setting up a computer for young kids to use, but only with strict adult supervision. There is an "Admin" account for the parents as the administrators and a "User" account for the kids, each with a password that only the parents know. The parents don't want their young children having unsupervised access to email when they're allowed on the computer, so they've put Norton Online Family on the User account to control access to Web Mail, but they would like to have Thunderbird installed as the email client on the Admin account. The problem is that when I install TB on the Admin account, it shows up in the U
