Desktop and start menu will not load in Window 8 Task ended in task manager. Will shutdown restart bring them back?

Desktop and start menu will not load in Window 8   Task ended in task manager.   Will shutdown restart bring them back?   I have not shut down PC/Windows 8 as I had Windows Explore (file mgr.) running when desktop ended and am able still to open and close windows/programs by finding .exe files.  I can get to Task Mgr.  ctrl,alt,del   Afraid if I lose (close) Windows Explore I'll be completely lockout.   Will a complete shutdown and restart bring back desktop and start menu?   When I try doing desktop screen resolution etc from control program get message desktop won't load.  can minimuize windows, but t hen just have blue screen no startup or desktop-pnned  i

Desktop & Start Menu shortcuts not working??

Hey all, I need some help. I'm not very good with stuff, so hopefully someone has a solution for me? My desktop and start menu shortcuts are not working at all. their all still there, although they just show up with a blank white icon. When I try to open something, it brings up a window with a list of programs asking me what I would like to use to run the application. Control panel, My computer, recycle bin, and a couple word files are fine. but things like itunes, google sketchup, firefox, ie will not work. I've tried safe mode, system restore, and system maintenance with no luck.. does anyone know of a solution for this? Thanks a lot!

Windows 8 Start Menu tile not able to access internet

My windows 8 start menu tiles are not able to access internet while i am using my mobile internet connection. But when i am connecting to a wifi connection i am able to connect my apps to internet and i am able to update my news, stocks, sports and all those. I checked the firewall of my antivirus its turned off.

Windows boots quite normally, I get the start screen. While using 'Windows(button) + D' I can Switch to Desktop view. By clicking on any of the programs, they do not work (including Internet Explorer, Store, Windows Explorer, Control Panel etc...). How Do I rectify this Problem?

Window 7 Laptop can see other wired PC via wireless connection by specifying drive letter " search programs and files" box in start menu but not in network screen

My laptop PC with Window 7 (64bit) can't see other desktop PCs running Window XP via wireless connection unless wired my Laptop then only i can see them on network. I have checked all workgroup to make sure all are same. However, when my laptop in wireless connection , i able to see other wired desktop PCs by specifying the network path in "search programs and files" at start menu in window 7 laptop , then i able to add network folder by specifying the drive letter for connection and folder that i want to connect to through right click to network to Map Network Drive.. Then, finally i can access to other wired desktop pc shared folder via wireless connection by this method. But i still cannot see them on network eventhrough i can ac

My start menu will not show recently used programs or files.

I have tried using system restore and nothing's working. My latest restore point is today so there's no way I can restore it to an earlier setting. I don't remember what happened that made these changes a few days ago. My laptop just decided to do some repair or something and it started from there. At the same time, my windows media player can't minimize to the mini player as well and some changes I make to the start menu also can't be saved. I'm using a Fujitsu Lifebook S series.

Desktop and Start menu icons not working

I'm having a rather frustrating problem. When I click on any desktop or start menu icons, the apps won't launch. The apps appear in windows processes, but do not show in applications on the taskbar. If I right click them and use 'Run as administrator', they launch correctly. Items in control panel are behaving likewise. I can launch control panel, but am unable to elevate some of the commands to administrator status (no right click launch available). Driving me crazy . Please help if you can.... Ian
