De-activating Windows 8 following upgrade
location:

I want to run Windows 8 Pro on my current 'main' laptop (Dell SXPS 1340 - 3 years old) which is currently running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
I have purchased a £25 upgrade from Microsoft and have also obtained the key for Windows Media Centre for free from Microsoft.
I plan to image my Windows 7 the way I normally do on a weekly basis using Paragon Hard Disk Manager.
I would then upgrade to Windows 8. I imagine I would have to activate the Windows 8 as part of this process. It is possible I may have problems using Windows 8 after activating. e.g. the compatibility checker I ran as part of the Upgrade purchase advised me that my Paragon software is incompatible. More worryingly it says my Bluetooth software is incompatible. I cannot afford to

Question about $40 Windows 8 Pro Upgrade
location:
8forums.com - date:
October 26, 2012
Ok, so I decided to grace my laptop with the $40 upgrade, using Microsoft's Upgrade assistant thingie. First off, what happens to the Windows 7 CD-KEY stickered on the bottom of my laptop? Does that become invalidated? Or can I dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 ?
Also, is there any way I'll be able to burn the digital download onto a DVD myself to install it fresh, rather than letting it upgrade my current Windows 7 installation?

Change install download language for Windows 8 Pro Upgrade
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 26, 2012
Guys I have found out that it's a none issue. Unlike Windows 7-Vista that you had to have The Ultimate version to change the UI language, I think Microsoft has gone international and left it open. So just install it and then download the US language pack.
They have kept it easy and open.

Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Product Key can't be used to activate Windows after a clean install
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 26, 2012
Hi guys,
I purchased a Windows 8 Pro Upgrade and received the Product Key that I have used to download and perform a clean install of my laptop using a USB Flash Drive (format my HD then install). But now in my brand new installed Windows 8, I can't use that Product
Key to activate Windows as it says that the key is only for an Upgrade, not a clean install. I wasn't aware of this problem when I did the clean install. So how can I activate my Windows now?

Price difference for Windows 8 Pro upgrade
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I upgraded my pc to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Professional when it was first released to the public at the promotional price at the time.
Unfortunately the motherboard in my pc died soon after and I need to rebuild it, so I am taking the opportunity to do a major rebuild.
My question is:-
Why is the price of the Windows 8 Pro upgrade on the Microsoft Download site $399.99 and yet it is only $67.99 in the local computer store?
Is there a difference in the software?

Clean install with Windows 8 Pro upgrade media
location:
7forums.com - date:

In a moment of weakness, I ordered the retail Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Media from an online vendor and I received it yesterday with both 32bit,64bit media and Key.
I made a Custom install with the 64bit media on a 80GB partition created and formatted with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Windows 7 Disk Management - a clean install with DELL OEM Reinstall Disk - on my Dell lappy.
Since it was an upgrade media, I followed Brink's tutorial refreshing it after the first install. Everything went on well and Windows 8 Pro activated without any hitch.
After reading that many users who had bought the media from the vendor were able to do a clean install even on a new HDD, I decided to try it.
So I reformattedd the partition and installed the Windoes
