Computer keeps prompting me to install microsoft .NET framework version 2.0 on startup
location: microsoft.com - date: February 15, 2011
I just got a new computer and it has been running fine. The only problem is that every time I start it up I get a prompt saying that necessary software isn't installed. The thing it says I need to install is microsoft ".NET framework version 2.0". I went to the microsoft website and this update is from 2006 and isn't even compatible with my Windows 7 machine. I downloaded and installed the most recent .NET framework (version 3.5) and the computer still tells me I am missing .NET framework version 2.0. Can someone please tell me what is happening? Thanks a lot, Mat

Hi, I hope I'm not asking this for the millionth time here, as I tried a search but am afraid it all just confused me more. I believe my problem is related to the Dell all-in-one printer I want to work with my Dell laptop. Recently, Windows updated and I now get this message again upon start up: REQUIRED SYSTEM SOFTWARE NOT INSTALLED. Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 is required to continue. This software is available for free download at Microsoft Download Center I cannot remember how I fixed it before, or if a general windows update fixed it, but it's doing it again now. I searched online and found this: Microsoft .Net Framework error message? - Microsoft Windows Vista Community Forums - Vistaheads and I followed the instructi

I keep getting the message listed above whenever I start my computer. It began after I upgraded to Windows 7. When I try to install the service pack for the .NET framework version 2.0, it says that the software is not compatible with Vista. But I installed the Windows 7 upgrade, so it should not matter if it is compatible with Vista, right?? I don't understand what I am supposed to do; first, I get an error message saying I need .NET framework version 2.0, then i get a message saying that it is not compatible. Can anyone help? Please...?

When I start Windows 8 I get the message: "Required software not installed, Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 is required to continue." I am then directed to the MS downloads site, where there are plenty of updates, service packs etc for this program but I can't find the program itself. I did find Version 4.0 and tried to download it, and was told it was already installed. Questions: What does MS .NET Framework Version 2.0 actually do, and do I need it if I already have the Version 4.0 installed? (And if I don't need it, why the prompt, and how do I get rid of it?)
