Hi, Im new here, and I bleed easily so be nice. I quite often place files on my Windows 8 desktop while im working on various stuff and have a problem with icons I cant fix, for example: I have a number of PDF files currently on my desktop and my pdf program is foxit. I DONT WANT TO CHANGE THE PROGRAM ICON, just the icons of the files it makes. I had the same issue on win7 and i know I can change folder view options to "show icons and not thumbnails" but unfortunately that screws up my image icons. In windows 7, "types" and "nirsoft files type manager" allowed you to change the file type icon from the thumbnail to whatever icon you wanted. These 2 progs plus another ive tried dont work in win 8pro?

How to change file Icon in Windows Explorer (.mp3)

Downloaded 15 mp3 audio files for learning English from British Council website. 13 files show beautiful artwork on the Windows Explore and Media Player as well same with the one on the webside. Howeer 2 files shows Windows defualt image of eighth note. I can not see any information about the icon in the property of the file. I wish to get some help to solve the my problem.

Change default icon on file type

I'm trying to figure out a way to change the default icon for a specific file type (ie: change .vbs icon to a custom icon). I've been doing some searching on this forum and I've come across some ways to change default icons but they all seem to involve going through the registry. Is that really the only way to change the default icons on Windows 7? I LOVE 7 so far but that really sucks if thats true. What happened to the screen in the attached image (taken from XP)?

How to change individual PDF file icon?

Any way to change Libraries icon?

In W7 I used to change the Libraries icon () using this tutorial: Libraries Icon - Change Default Icon - Windows 7 Help Forums It doesn't seem to work in Windows 8 as when I try to change the permissions I get this error message: (I'm running regedit as administrator with UAC off) Any ideas?

Will this work in Windows 8? Drive Icon - Change - Windows 7 Support Forums I don't have an autorun.inf. When I highlight my USB drive It says install disk. I don't have a place to create a txt file. I would like to chance the icon. Thanks Clint

Icon Help: Icons missing and replaced with Illustrator File Icon

Hey, I've been coming to this forum for a while now since I set up my Windows 7 system, the tutorials here are fantastic, and have helped me customized Windows 7 just the way I want it! except just after the last couple of days, I noticed that a few of the icons in the start menu were missing, and replaced with what looks like an Adobe Illustrator file icon, and when I open the program, it also shows the Illustrator icon on the task bar :S I was just wondering if any of you might know what would cause something like this, and I greatly appreciate any help that is given I'll attach a photo to show you exactly what I mean:

Change file extension upper/lower case

Everyday I upload some files to my website and to simplify my website operations, I use the same filename and just upload a file with new information every day. The case of file extensions is of no consequence to Windows 7, but it matters to my website. I want to standardize on one case and it doesn't matter which as long it's the same all the time. I have one app, the snipping tool, which seems to generally make files using uppercase, but I have some existing files that are lower case. I have tried to get rid of the lower case extensions by deleting the file and then recreating it with the same name. When I do, Windows changes the case from upper to lower. If I simply create a brand new file with no previous instances of that file in exist
