reformat from Windows XP PRO, so can install Windows XP Home retail. This is due to the computer being given and dont have the cd to repair or re-install for fresh use.

Was given a computer running WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SRV PK 3. Would like to format the HardDrive so as to be able to be used as a fresh new computer, since the harddrive is 3/4 full and the version on it was not given with the computer, have own WINDOWS
XP HOME RETAIL and need to reformat the drive to take the software. I have done the boot from CD but it continues to tell me that the version currently running on the computer is newer than the one being installed and then quits the install.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my computer. It came with Home Premium installed and I upgraded. I tried out Windows XP mode but I don't like it. I also tried Oracle's VirtualBox software and installed Windows XP on it, but also didn't like it.
I always thought that if you installed an older operating system on a system with a newer one installed, it would mess up your boot files. Is this true?
Can I install Windows XP Home Edition without so I can dual boot without causing any problems?
Additionally, any very good (free) VM software for Windows out there?

My Windows XP laptop finally died on me and I need to replace it ASAP, as I use it to work from home. Is it possible to buy a new computer, which will come with Windows 7 and install Windows XP? I have some very old software that I need to use to remain compatible with my clients, so I need a Windows XP system for that. I have heard from others with this program that it is very unstable, if it will work at all, on Windows 7.
Can this be done? If so, can anyone direct me to a good resource for instructions how to do so? Will Windows XP be stable on a newer computer?

On an HP w/ AMD processor that has recently had a Clean Reinstall, I can't update to Service Pack 3. Every time that I try it won't boot except for Safe Mode. If I try Windows Update I get Error 0X8007043C. At one webpage it said that I needed Framework
2.0 (I have ver 1.1). I found that but the install failed. Later I found instructions for installing Framework 4.0. That installed correctly, but when I manually installed Service Pack 3, again I could not boot. Had to restore SP2 again, third time.

I am about to install Windows XP Professional in my desktop. I got this from the internet and I am not sure of it's reliability. If something goes wrong during installation or if I am not satisfied with it, how can I remove it completely from my Hard disk?
