location:

My computer just got a blue screen after been on for 2 days, I expected to be home sooner. I let the computer ride out the blue screen and waited for it to restart but when it did all the programs that came with the computer on the start menu were gone.
The only thing I can do on the computer now is use the desktop and the programs that were "saved" on it.

Icon distortion in the start menu after the screen has gone to sleep.
location:
microsoft.com - date:
August 27, 2012
I just want to report that on my system after coming back to the computer and waking the screen back up (Just the screen, the computer doesn't go to sleep) IF I was on the start menu when I left all of the icons for the apps are distorted, they look like
a TV that doesn't have reception, its just white and black fuzzy looking, is the best way I can describe it. But when I mouse over the icons they then appear normal. Its like Windows OR the driver are not repainting the screen correctly after the screen comes
back on.
System info:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 8 Release Preview
Version 6.2.8400 Build 8400
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Type x64-based PC
Processor AMD FX(tm)

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as Riram 04 posted on december 22, 2012.
I bought my sony vaio laptop two months ago and now I got the blue screen many times a day (systeme service exception). It happens more and more often and I absolutely don't understand where it comes from. Already tried to analyze the minidump data with the
windows tool kit. But even if I have the analysis now, I dont know what to do with it.
This is the bugcheck analysis:

After Blue Screen/Reboot, Startup Repair shows wrong drive letter for Windows Directory

On Saturday, I installed a ATI 650 TV Wonder on my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit machine. This machine has an ATI 5770 card and perhaps more importantly 2 hard drives - a HDD that is the master and a SDD that is the slave on the first controller. The SDD
drive has 2 partitions with Windows 7 on the first and the second currently vacant. The HDD is one single large NTFS partition. I had some installation problems with the ATI software, but Windows Media Center was setup without a hitch. I upgraded some software
and performed some Windows updates while the WMC was on in the background. At some point, I setup WMC to record my TV, but instead of recording to the C drive on my SDD, I set it to record to my

How to open start menu with touch screen?
location:

I am trying to get back to the start menu with a touch screen on my convertible tablet. Let's say I'm browsing the internet. If I hit the "windows" key, I can immediately switch to start screen. But what if I don't want to use the (physical) keyboard at all? What's the equivalent from the touch screen while I'm browsing the web?

Using the Start Menu to switch between running programs
location:
7forums.com - date:

First an admission. I'm a Mac user and an avowed keyboard shortcut enthusiast. On a Mac we have a wonderful app (prog in Winspeak) called Quicksilver, which makes it possible (among other things) to switch between running programs using the keyboard (i.e., without the hunt and click mouse nonsense). All I have to do is invoke a hot-key, type one or two letters (it remembers the apps I use most!), press Enter and BAM! I'm there. I find this so much faster than hunting for the right icon on the taskbar, or alt-tabbing through 10-15 apps to get to where I want to go.
Alas, in Windows (any flavor, be it 2K, XP, Vista or 7), if I do anything other than alt-tab to a running program, or click on its icon on the taskbar, I'm going to start ano

Windows Start Menu - Not Showing Recently Opened Programs.

-Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
-4GB of DDR3 RAM (even though it doesn't feel like it)
-Intel Core i3 Processor - 2.13 GhZ
I finally got it back from being fixed because it was locked with Pheonix FailSafe and now they stopped supporting their servers so I couldn't get the unlock key from their website. So I sent it back to Samsung's Tech fixers (...) and they somehow got incontact with PFS and unlocked. But when I got it back. All documents were gone. Everything was fine except the documents. And this computer was so slow since. I don't know what they did it honestly takes like 15 seconds to open up Chrome. It use to take like 2 seconds being honest.
Anyways when I click on the Start Menu, I have my 5 pined pr

White boxes behind text in start menu after adding a picture...
location:

May 19, 2012
Okay, been playing around with Vista Style Builder, and got an image into my start menu which I'm quite happy with. It works just fine when I open the start menu normally, but as soon as I click on "All Programs", the program folders and apps all have a white background behind them that stretches across the field, covering the entire image (and yes, I did replace the standard start menu left box with the picture, i can see it on the borders of the start menu. I've been trying to look around, and I've prolly just missed it, but how do I get rid of these boxes so I can see the picture just like I can in the normal start menu with the recently used and pinned items?
Edit: somehow missed that it appears around the "All Pr
