I have Windows 8 Customer Preview installed on a laptop that also has a Ubuntu 10.11 disto on a spearate partition. When booting, I no longer see an option to boot Ubuntu.

I have Windows 8 Customer Preview installed on a laptop that also has a Ubuntu 10.11 disto on a spearate partition. Prior to installing the Preview Edition, I had the Developers Preview installed. Since I had installed the Ubuntu distro after the Windows
preview, Ubuntu created a dual boot menu where I could select between Windows and Ubuntu upon boot up.
Since I have installed the latest Win 8, I no longer have this option, which I fully expected.
I know that I can reinstall Ubuntu and get the dual boot (grub2 for the initiated) menu back, but I am wondering if there is any way that I can get the same ability from inside of Windows 8.
Anyone have an answer for this?

Windows 7 Black Screen when booting up
location:
microsoft.com - date:
August 8, 2010
I have been extremely busy at work and haven't had much time to try to troubleshoot this, although i did get something to work.
As mentioned before I was able to avoid the black screen only by logging-in in Safe Mode or by logging-in in Normal mode with the Graphics Card disabled (with very low resolution). Up to this point my monitor has always been connected to the graphics card
using an HDMI cable.
So, I thought I would try a different approach. My monitor was connected to the graphics card using an HDMI cable. So I disconnected the HDMI cable and tried using a DVI cable. Now that I am using the DVI cable I am able to login with the Intel HD Graphics
card enabled and with the latest driver installed for the graphics card.

Num Lock not turned on when booting Windows 8
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 28, 2012
Hi everyone,
After turning on my system after loading Windows 8, the Num Lock does not turn on automatically as it is set in my BIOS. I followed suggestions given in the forums and changed the registry entries for the InitialKeyboardIndicators key in the registry to
have a value of 2. This still does not work.
What I noticed is that if I sign off in Windows 8 and then select shut down after signing out, the num lock light will be on after rebooting my system. However, if I go into settings and power off directly without signing off, num lock is turned off when
I reboot my PC.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Program in Startup Folder won't launch when booting up
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

Hi. My ASUS motherboard software includes AI Suite which monitors cpu & system temperatures as well as offering fan speed controls. Launching the application manually brings up the UAC box with the usual "Do want to allow this program to makes changes to your computer" (or similar words) and you have to click yes/ok in order for the program to run. When I added AI Suite to my Startup folder in Windows 7 Home Premium using Windows' recommended method the program does not launch when I reboot the computer. Other than completely disabling UAC notifications is there a way to make this program launch automatically at startup? Thanks for your help!

BSOD When Booting After Installing Xbox 360 Wired Controller Drivers
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hello.
I am having a ridiculously hard time figuring out how to fix this BSOD i've been getting this past week.
I keep getting BSOD "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" every single time I restart upon installing the drivers for my Xbox 360 Wired Controller.
I then try the System Restore and it does not work, so then I roll back to a previous System Restore point. I've had to do this about 10+ different times now, because once that driver is installed, it will not let me past the "Starting Windows" animation. Even Safe Mode BSODs!
I've tried a few different install/uninstall things w/ the Drivers for the Controller, but with no luck.
I also used the BlueScreenView program, and idk if it's any help, but here's the ou

BSODs when booting up computer
location:
7forums.com - date:

Hello, I got some BSOD troubles I hope you fine folks can help me with. So let me describe what's been happening:
Whenever I cold boot up my computer first thing in the morning, chances are the computer will get a BSOD. After maybe 15 minutes of shenanigans, the computer works just fine for the rest of the day, until I shut it off for the night and the whole thing starts over again.
Now, this has happened before, when I had Vista on this computer. It got so bad, I went to a local computer shop that offered a reformat along with a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate and Office 2007 for $75 (iknowright?). And for a month it was peaches and cream, but now the BSODs have been rearing its ugly head again.
Anyway, I tried to look at the minid

Dual boot - Recovery screen when booting to Win8
location:

Dual booting Win 7 and Win 8. Win 7 is C: Primary installed first, Win 8 is installed to a primary partition (25GB). I get the blue recovery screen after starting Win 8 from bootloader menu. Win 7 starts fine. I have installed Win 8 on another computer using the same flash so I know the flash is good. First I defraged and cleaned out C: then created the partition. I have installed it on the computer before(preview edition) then removed it(formated D: partition), this is the RTM 9200 build. Did I mention that on the other computer when installed it asked for Key which I temporarily skipped, on this computer however when installed it did not ask for the key. Before the install I ran bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and also /rebuildbcd from Win 7 in

When booting windows 7, all I see is a black screen & cursor...
location:

When booting my pc, it goes past the windows logo and just before the login screen appears, the screen goes black and all I see is my cursor, I can't move the cursor or do anything with the pc. The only solution that seems to be working is I have to boot from cd and reinstall windows 7. I really don't want to do this everytime I boot up my pc as the installation takes around 45mins. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
