windows 8 avg 2013 cant uninstall
location:
microsoft.com - date:

I've tried Revo Uninstaller, the normal windows uninstaller, the microsoft fix it that was for a Windows 7 system to uninstall avg free antivirus 2013. When I go to the Metro UI and type in, "AVG" it says that it's still installed. I've noticed that it's
no longer showing as an app with the avg logo but instead it's a plan file. Not sure if that makes sense but I'm pretty much saying that I don't see the avg logo even though the Metro UI search still shows that it's there. Please help.

Avoid new Build 6514 update to Acronis True Image 2013 - for now . . .
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
April 6, 2013
Since a number of Forum members use Acronis True Image 2013 on their Windows 8 systems, news of its just released update —
It appears Acronis has blown it again: the first update to the quite good True Image 20013 release is not reliably installing when prompted from the application:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/41189
When the update is downloaded independently it remains unclear whether it will complete successfully. If not, the Cleanup Utility's routine will be necessary, per GroverH's post above.
What's more, the Linux boot CD built from this release [Build 6514] fails to load the correct mouse drivers for some systems as well as chipset drivers, resulting in a mouseless UI and the failure to recognize hard drives:

2013 Recommended SSD for Linux (Ubuntu)
location:
7forums.com - date:

Although I was quite the authority on G2 SSD's way back when we were all much younger, I am now a bit out of touch. Prices have of course plummeted since I purchased my Intel and Samsung SSD's. That much I do know. Who is reliable now? Well, that I don't know.
Specifically, I need an SSD for my Linux Ubuntu computer - for OS and Programs.
Since THE manufacturer changes from year to year, I would appreciate knowing which mfr. now makes the best "set it and forget it" SSD.
Please understand that I don't want to spend the rest of my natural life reading reviews but would prefer to be lazy and rely on the sage judgment of SevenForums members.
Yes, I know that was patronizing.

Acronis True Image Home 2013 beta
location:

Many people have asked about Acronis TIH v 2010 or 2011 or 2012. I use both Acronis TIH 2010 and 2011. Neither will work at this time with Win 8 (I have the Win 8 Ent. Eval. RTM on both my PC and my wife's PC) 2010 will not install, and 2011 will not work when installed. I get an error for both stating the app is presently blocked by Acronis as they test these 2 versions with Win 8. In looking at the Acronis page it appears 2012 is in the same boat although I have not tried it. Be advised however that both 2010 and 2011 can make Images of Win 8, you just have to boot to the Rescue Boot Media you created to create Images, which I did for both 2010 and 2011 versions on our 2 PC's.
Being a registered user of Acronis, I was eligible for the Ac

DVD Drive Will Not Read CD/DVDs in Windows 7 (Detected in Bios/Windows
location:

September 24, 2010
Hi All, I've been struggling with this problem all night and after reading countless articles and trying dozens of fixes I figured I'd ask.
I installed a fresh machine today with Windows 7, and got everything to work minus my Samsung SH-S223C 22X DVD Writer SATA Black OEM. The drive works, as I used it to install Windows 7 in the first place.
It is detected by BIOS, as well as showing up in My Computer. The problem is, it won't read any disc (ive tried about 10) including the very same windows 7 install disc it previously installed from hours prior.
So far I've tried removing the upper/lowerfilters from the registry (they werent there in my case), update to the latest firmware, ran the driver detective driver scan and update, removed t

office 2013 install failed now cant re-install or remove
location:

Hey,
I have a problem with my laptop when trying to re-install Office 2013 preview edition - basically the initial install failed for some reason and can I can neither remove or install this software leaving me in some sort of Microsoft limbo.
Someone I know suggested logging onto the "my account" section of the Microsoft site and actually deactivating the install however that has not solved the problem?
CCleaner has also been run to try and remove any redundant registry entries however again that has not solved my problem.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 (Official)
Thanks

OS won't boot, cant access C;\ to recreate BCD store
location:

Hello guys,
This is my first time in this forums, so please bare with me.
My brother-in-law's computer is running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. When the computer is power on it goes pass POST then does not find a bootable device, so these are the steps I've done so far.
Booted to Windows 7 CD and tried the following:
1. startup repair
2. bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and /rebuildbcd - when rebuildbcd I get "Total identified Windows installations: 0"
3. bootsect /nt60 c:
4. command prompt and using DISKPART found that the only disk in the system was not active, so I made it active and now when I boot the system I get NTLDR missing
5. bcdedit - I get access denied when accessing C:\
now I'm stuck ... i've read several forums, incl
