Metro UI effects on ACER Aspire 1 netbook (max resolution 1024 X 600)
location:
8forums.com - date:
November 11, 2011
Hi all
Not sure if this has been posted before but running Metro UI needs a minimum resolution of 1024 X768 which IMO seems a bit absurd in view of the large number of netbooks and tablets having a slightly lower resolution like 1024 X 600 which seems to be a common size.
You can "poodle fake" the screen into "down-rezzing" allowing you to use a slightly higher resolution to get round this limit.
Not sure where I got the info from - but thanks anyway to whoever found this out.
It doesn't look too bad on the netbook but if you don't like it then it's easy to change back again. 1) Run regedit
2) Search and modify all values "Display1_DownScalingSupported" from "0" to "1"
3) R

Touch screen and Remote Acer Aspire Z5771
location:

Hi
I have just installed windows 8, and the touch screen on my PC does not seem to be working at all. As far as am aware the screen on the acer aspire Z5771 is multi-touch and compatible with W8. I can not seem to find a solution to this online or using the help
on my PC.
Separately I have also installed the windows media center add on to find that my remote control no longer works with this feature.
I would greatly appreciate any help on these matters

BIOS Update for Acer Aspire 7720 running windows 7
location:
7forums.com - date:
April 7, 2013
I'm wondering if I should get the BIOS update from Acer for my laptop.
I've been having some audio stutter issues that seem to be fixed by disabling the LAN from 'device manager' (a pretty common problem and solution, apparently).
I just wonder if getting a BIOS update will make my computer more stable, because I don't want to have to keep disabling my LAN just to stop audio stutter and, in some cases, spikes in the CPU usage.
Is it safe to update my BIOS? Would I need to back-up any data before I do it?

Acer Aspire One AOA150/ZG5, can it run 2GB or more RAM?
location:
7forums.com - date:
January 22, 2012
Is there any way to get an Acer Aspire One AOA150/ZG5 running with 2GB+ of RAM? I've heard it's not possible and the reason for that is the on board 512MB of RAM, so I was wondering if theres any way around this.
The reason I'd like to increase my RAM is so the thing can run Windows 7. Currently with 1GB total it's able to run it but BSoD's whenever I do anything such as downloads. I've added some virtual RAM but it doesn't seem to help much.
I tried ReadyBoost with a 4GB SD Card, it didn't do anything either. My computer still BSoD's.

Restoring Acer Aspire One from scratch
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
November 9, 2012
I have an Acer Aspire One netbook that I am trying to restore the original XP from scratch on a new HDD due to misadventures with a dual-boot system using Ubuntu. I used an external optical drive and tried to install a bought XP disk on the drive to use the recovery disks to reinstall the Acer OS version. No go. I do have available other laptops and an external USB to HDD adapter if that helps. I have found that my Ultimate Boot CD v. 5.02 will allow me to do things on the Acer for basic disk operations. Any ideas on how to put back the original OS? Thanks.
