Document Recovery From 7-Zip-Archived Word-File
location:

Hi,
I was working on a document that was located in a zip archive. I have 7-zip installed on my computer. I’m running Windows 8. I repeatedly saved the file in Word while I was working on it. However, I’ve since rebooted the computer and my file is missing. All of the “saves” I’ve made didn’t seem to update the file in the archive. I understand that I should have extracted the file first before working on it; however, I received no prompt from Word 2013 that my saves were not being recorded. Perhaps the file was saved into some sort of temporary folder/file that 7-zip creates/works from.
Are my changes lost permanently? Does there exist a temporary file somewhere with my changes in it?
Thank you. This is a court document and I

Open .rar files with 7-zip.
location:

I've tried to associate 7_zip with .rar files so that I can Open them. I now have the attached.
But nothing happens when I double-click the .rar file.
Either what do I need to do to get this to work? Or, how do I remove it? I followed "Option 2" here File Extension Type - Unassociate but that did not do it.

7-Zip folder encryption
location:
winsecrets.com - date:

I am trying to use 7-Zip to encrypt a folder structure. I have a word processor file in that structure which I am then trying to update. Just pressing 'save' in the word processor does not update the file in the Zip archive. I can 'save as' outside the archive but then it is saved unencrypted. If I then right click and use 7-Zip 'add to archive' to add it back to the archive there appears to be no way to place in the proper folder of the Zip archive. There must be an easy way to update the file in the encrypted archive. Can anyone help.
Thanks,
Ivan

How to Open Compressed file in .Rar + 7-zip
location:
microsoft.com - date:
January 27, 2014
Hi to everybody,
during the last few days I received two files that I was not able to open with my Win 8.1, that is:
- a file in .7z, which I had never heard before;
- a file in .rar
The strange thing is that I do can open normal file in .zip.
So, my question is: Do you have any FOC program to recommend me for the above requirements?
I tried to download a program suggested by eHow named Extract Now, but it it was more pain than gain (and that I uninstalled immediately...), because, apart from not being able to open the Rar File, it also came with a series of other programs which had nothing
to see with my problem...)
Looking forward to yr reply

Hello,
I im trying to help a friend with his computer. It tries to install these 2 updates but it fails every time.
The computer is running Win 7 32 bit. Antivirus is MSS and I have tried to turn off "Real Time Protection"
Have also scanned the computer for malware with: mbam, combofix and Hitman Pro
I have tried several times. Also in Clean Boot.
I have also tried to uninstall Explorer 9 both automatically and manually with no luck.
The first time i ran the System Update Readiness Tool the logs pointed me towards KB2817183.
I downloaded this pack and expanded the .mum and the .cat files to ...\Servicing\Packages folder and then ran the SURT again.
This time it fixed most of the errors, but the errors in the log below remai

WinZip vs. 7-Zip running on Win10 64-bit version?
location:
winsecrets.com - date:
November 2, 2015
I have been a long time WinZip user but over the years I've noticed that although the main function of the program (i.e. to zip and unzip files) remains the same, WinZip keeps adding functionality to their program which some would call bloat. Today, I received yet another notice from WinZip announcing WinZip 20 which again seems to be more bloat and I'm contemplating getting off the upgrade treadmill.. So, is there anyone out there that can provide me with an honest comparison of 7-Zip against WinZip running on a Windows 10 64-bit machine? In addition if there's anyone that can provide me with any info on the 7-Zip beta (i.e. features, potential release dates for a GA version, etc.) then that would be helpful as well.

Can't change .rar properties back to 7-zip?
location:
7forums.com - date:
August 18, 2014
So I've kinda ran into a big mess. I noticed that the Extract All option was missing from the right-click menu (i have 7zip installed). I'm trying to extract 3-part .rar files.. tricky thing to do. I keep getting extraction errors with 7-zip, and wanted to see what Windows could do with the extraction instead, using Extract All.
Well I changed the Properties of the .rar files to open with Windows Explorer (C:\Windows\explorer.exe) instead of 7zip. I then realized that Windows may not extract .rars, only zips. Now, I cannot seem to change the Properties of this file back to 7-Zip, the change button is missing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 7zip to see if the rar extension would stick back, but it did not.. ugh
