Problem with 7-Zip not working . . .
location:
7forums.com - date:
June 26, 2009
Okay, here's a strange one: I installed 7-Zip (64-bit) on my machine (GA-EX58-UD5, Ci7-920, 12GB, Win.7.7232.x64) from the main administrator account. I set the executables (all 3 of them) to be run as administrator for ALL users. I set the file associations. It works perfectly within the main administrator account -- ONLY!
When I log into my own account (with full administrator privileges), files whose extensions I associated with 7-Zip are properly icon'd. I can right-click and get the context menu.
But nothing works. No decompression. Nada. Zip. (Forgive the pun.)
Anyone got any ideas?

Re: 7-Zip update

Tony,
Have you used this?
Does it UNZIP, zip files?
According to the website........
Supported formats:
Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM and DEB
Is this correct or not. OR is it saying it will only unpack zip files that 7-zip has created?
Sounds a little confusing to me. ( but then again, it doesn't take too much to confuse me ! )

Windows 7 zip file date modified
location:
7forums.com - date:

"date modified" field does not update when files are replaced in a zip folder while running Windows 7 64-bit.
Data files are stored in zip files and utilized daily. At the days end the files are replaced with the most current revision. The updated file displays the correct "date modified", however when the filed is transfered into the zip file, the "date modified" displayed within the zip file does not update.
I don't have this problem with Windows XP or 2000. Is there some hidden setting that is needed for Windows 7 to recognize file modification dates just as every version prior?
It becomes frustrating that Microsoft continues to add nice new fancy operating features, but yet continuously fails t

7-zip rar files vs Compressed files?
location:
microsoft.com - date:
December 1, 2012
My question is this. What is the difference between the 7-zip rar files and when I use the compressed (zipped) folder selection on a file? What's the rar files for?
I rarely send zipped files. I used to have WinZip on my old computer. My generic office PC tower computer has XP Pro, SP3, Office 2003. (By the way, awhile back I upgraded to Office 2007 but found it totally lame and went back to 2003). A few reciepents
of some PDF architectural building plan files say they cannot open my files when I send them with 7-zip. These are sometimes 30-60 page pdf building plans.
Please explain.
