Windows 7 5.1 audio
location:

I have my surround sound connected to my tv thru optical cable and my tv connected to pc by hdmi. When I configure sound in windows there are two options. The intel display audio and the realtek digital output. My soundbar doesn't have an hdmi option so I'm forced to use the optical cable. So when I try to configure the display audio, it only has the stereo option. Is there a way around this so I can configure 5.1 in windows?

Is anyone playing 5.1 sound with minijacks vs spdif?
location:
7forums.com - date:
March 13, 2014
If it is working in WMC for you, please tell me your sound card.
My MB only has spdif or stereo out from minijacks.
I have a free PCI slot but my experience with sound cards has not been good.
Can I expect a pci windows 7 sound compatible card to work, like a cheap cm chip card off ebay?
I have a dynex 5.1 sound card and it only plays stereo and conflicts with my wonder HDTV tuner.
But windows update has a driver and it works in control panel.
So I dont want to waste money buying a card if it wont work outputting 5.1 sound from the minijacks, rear and center and woofer.
I have a soundblaster PCI which does not conflict with the tuner, but of course driver issues make it not work correctly.

ASUS Xonar DGX 5.1 - Won't Install in Windows 7
location:
7forums.com - date:
December 15, 2012
Hello Everyone,
I recently bought an Asus Xonar DGX soundcard for an HTPC I'm building. Upon installing the card and booting into Windows 7, Windows recognized the card but was unable to install a driver for it.
Trying to then install the drivers (via both the CD driver and one I downloaded from the Asus website) I was greeted with the following error message, ""Please plug-in ASUS Xonar D2 Audio device." I tried moving the soundcard to a different PCI-express slot, but I was greeted with the same error.
At this point, I'm not sure why I am unable to install the soundcard on my Windows 7 install. Everything has been working correctly so far, so not sure if there is a driver issue or something that is wrong with

Surround 5.1 only 2 speakers working
location:
7forums.com - date:
August 29, 2012
Hey guys,
I'm not very good at all this, but I've been searching for hours without finding a solution to my problem:
I've recently bought a SoundForce 5.1 (Trust) surround speakers set with a SC-5500P 5.1 External Sound Card. At first I didn't have the sound card so I could only insert 1 Jack 3.5mm and only 2 speakers would work at the same time.
Now however with the sound card I expected them all to work together, but there's only sound coming out of 2 of them (the other emit a very low 'pshhhhhh').
I've tried to configure the setting of my sound into 5.1 surround, but the test sounds only come out of two of the speakers.
Does anyone know how I should fix this problem? I've searched and tried many things, but I'm still clueless of

Windows 8, backup files with alternate USB Flash Drives
location:
microsoft.com - date:
April 2, 2013
I have a longtime habit of making a file backup & storing it off site to protect my desktop computer files from a possible fire, weather event, computer theft, etc. With Win XP every month I created a new backup on a USB flash drive & take it to a secure
location. I was using NT Backup. The next month I would create an entirely new backup on USB flash & exchange it with the previous USB flash drive. The file size I wish to backup is not that large so a 8 or 16 GB USB flash is large enough.
This does not work with Windows 8. It seems to me that Win 8 is designed to use the same backup device & have it automatically do the backup on a

Problem with Win7 USB Download Tool
location:
7forums.com - date:

I downloaded the Windows 7 USB Download Tool and a current Windows 7 ISO from Technet. When I use the tool to load Win Install onto my USB stick, I get an error that says my ISO is not a valid ISO file. I burned the ISO file to a DVD-RW disc and it works fine. Is there a bug or known problem with the Download Tool?

Media Center Extender no longer playing 5.1
location:
microsoft.com - date:
October 28, 2012
Before the recent upgrade (Windows 8) I was able to use the Windows Media Center Extender with my Xbox 360 to play movies in 5.1. I am using WMV 10 with WMA Pro for my 5.1 surround encoding. I have tested the files using the build in Xbox video player
and they play in 5.1. I have also tried other files including AVI & MKV and they also don't play 5.1. It seems that in Media Center Extender it trys to play them as PCM. I dont' see a sound option inside of the extender like there is on the PC side to set
the audio as 5.1. I'm connected to my receiver and my TV via HDMI. I have found a forum that suggested installing AC3Filter for codecs but this didn't solve it.

5.1 surround sound does not work
location:

5.1 surround sound
Hello all,
I've just recently upgraded to Windows 7. There is only ONE problem I have, my 5.1 surround setup. I only get response from the front two speakers. no center, no rear, no sub. I've gone through the setup, and when I click 'test', I get a response from all speakers.
However, when I try to use a program (VLC, WMP, Opera, OpenPandora, Firefox) I only get sound from the front two. Also, system sounds only come out of the front two. My 5.1 card is onboard. I've looked for drivers, and tried installing many to no avail. I've
also searched through applications to see if 5.1 was enabled.
My Mobo specs are as follows (per Belarc Advisor)
Board: Dell Inc. 0M3918
Bus Clock: 800 megahertz
BIOS: Dell Inc. A08
